OTHER: My web series "...And Then Everything Changed."

Enjoying it so far.

Not sure what you did for sound (mic, recorder, etc), but I'd say the only thing that forced me in and out of the series was the less-than-stellar sound.

Uhg. Sound is always hard. I'm using a Zoom H1 to capture sound. Any parts in particular that stick out at you? I've been mostly satisfied with the sound but I'm open to comments.

Thanks for checking it out!

damn son....threw me for a loop on that one...loved it, but wasn't expecting that of one of the "main" characters...nice as usual.

How much did you pay for all those government vehicles?

Shoot, now that we all have hd cameras on our phones, all it takes to get gov vehicles is to be fast on the draw! Glad you liked it.

You got them all lined up like that? The ambulance too? That's pretty lucky if you ask me lol...did you call in an armed robbery at that location and then just film them showing up? lol

I remember the sound being really challenging for me in the first episode. Didn't hear anything she said on the phone (maybe it was just me).

The Zoom is at least better than in-camera (usually). I use an NTG3 w/ Fostex 2LE. Since this video is just intended for the web, the Zoom should be fine, though. It's probably more to do with mic placement than anything.

In the past I've actually done wired lavs that go under the talents' clothes. I remember being able to rent two Countryman lavs for like 30 bucks for a whole weekend. If you're having trouble with mic placement for dialog, a lav might be useful -- or you could always have whoever's doing your booming watch some tuts and training videos on recording sound for film.

I didn't have *audible* issues with this latest episode, though. The overall noise could probably be a little cleaner, but again, for the web, it's fine. And any scenes where there's just snarling and dying I don't have issue with.

Most indie people on web and off will usually tell you that the most important thing is sound. Most semi-professional web series hire a sound person. Most web budgets don't allow for that, though, which is why I mentioned having your sound person get more aggressive in their training.

Thanks for the input. A lot of times on this project I have to use the camera sound for non-dialouge shots. I just don't have time to re-create all the sound. I'm literally making this with just me. For Episode 6 I had my wife as a boom operator, but sometimes it was just me thrusting the zoom out in front of me just out of camera range. I WISH I had a crew! Ha ha. Thanks again

I have nothing against a Zombie series. It would be like people saying they don't want to see anymore romantic comedies or x type of movie. Don't like that kind of movie? Don't watch. If it's original, I'm game.

I checked this out and I have a few issues but nothing major. The pacing is pretty good. Acting's not bad from what I saw. What I'm not a big fan of is the in and out of focus shots. I wish a little more things were in focus. It's just a little blurry too often, soft even. I want some sharp focus at times.

Nit picks. When racing away from zombies in a truck, roll up the windows! :)

I applaud you for getting out there and making this happen. It's coming along nicely and I'll check out the finale. I do hope you add an original hook to this though. If it's strictly a survival type movie with no real character development, people will eventually tune out.

I wish you all the best of luck and I'll be checking it out.

Cheers,

Thanks for watching. I too have noticed the windows being down :) That comes from the fast pace of shooting + putting the windows down so the glare doesn't kill the image during dialogue. Then I forget to put them back up! I'll be sure to update the post when the next one releases (hopefully in a week or so)

This series is really pretty good. There are some technical issues as far as the sound, but it's not too bad. The scene setups are great as are the zombies. I just can't say enough about the setups. They're really nice and you can tell as a director that you have good vision. The acting is really good in some spots, but in others it really lags. There are times when everything is face paced when somebody's being chased and when you cut to a different shot the sense of urgency is gone. Like in the episode with the jogger. When she was leaving the park she should have been hauling a** and when she got in the house everything should have been sort of panicky and high speed. Then when she leaves the house and gets in the car with her friend, they should have both had more of a sense of urgency. Overall though it's a very enjoyable series. Keep the zombies coming! Nice work!

Can you clarify? Are you talking about the jogger girl still? Cause they never made it out of the house together :)

Thanks for checking it out!

I may be a little mixed up, but it was the part where the police officer guy with the assault rifle shows up to pick the girl and he shoots a few zombies, the girl gets in the car and asks where he got it. He says something like, "Don't ask."

Ah yes. That's two different characters. But yeah, there are some "sense of urgency" issues that pop up :)

Like I said, it still is looking pretty good and with a few tweaks here and there it'll be even better! Good job and keep 'em coming!
