shoot with dvx100a
edited in vegas w/ MB

i'm a newbie in this DV field, got my first DV camera (DVX100A) few months ago, so i decided to make some short video footages to get more experiences.
i've got a lot of help from this board, i mean A LOT.. before i get my DVX100A and found this board, i was a full time graphic designer who's playing around photoshop and some fuji digital camera. i have no knowledge about DV and Editting whatsoever.
the footage ain't looking that good, but i'd still like to hear all your guys' comments.
and again, many thanks to those who answered all my newbie questions during last couple months, you guys are awsome.

Hey
I watched it and it was great. I really like some of the city shots. Really smooth moving shots. This didnt look like it was your first time with a camera. It looked awesome.

The video was ok for a first try I thought. I really like the singers voice though. She sounds angelic. She reminds me of enya. Is she signed? If you were to get a steady cam device like a glidecam you could just shoot her walking on the street coming towards the camera just like coldplays "Yellow", or something similar focusing on her face with the background action happening out of focus. Some things I didn't like were the cell phone ring messing up the rhythm of the song, and the girl very clearly asking where the phone was and the black man saying he couldn't understand her. Just doesn't make sense.

Good effort

the imagery was great.

The concept needed some work though. I agree with Kevin on the phone ring. Ruined the ending for me.

good work though!

Joe,

This is the kind of first effort I like to see. How did you get the circling around her shots? I agree, the scene of her askin gthe black guy for a phone didn't really fit, but if my first project comes off this nicely I'll be happy.

I liked the shots, but overall I felt that your film could have been tighted up considerably. It felt overly long to me. I also don't understand why the black gentleman didn't get what she was saying. I heard her clear as day. So why didn't he? Maybe there is some kind of mythology behind that. However, I don't know what that is. I may be overlooking something. Anyway, the music was distracting to me and any other audio was very hard to hear, I had to turn up my sound. I liked the camera work alot though, did you have a stedicam?

One last thing, I don't feel that the text in the begining and end is necessary, it seems forced to me.

(disregaurd what I said about the music, if it was a music video)

I just realized, that she has an accent, but it wasn't thick enough for it to be misconstrued, in my opinon. Anyhow. good luck.

Waiting for a .mov or .wmv as .rm is one of the crappiest codecs there is, I refuse to install it on this new machine.
