My USB 2.0 doesn't work

I have been trying to get my USB 2.0 to show up on my laptop as I am going to capture in a new editing project. The computer says there is no active drive that the computer can see.

Someone mentioned that the board can be shorted out if you connect the USB 2.0 while the computer is on.

I then wanted to use the Firewire but found there is no firewire cable on the HVX.

Does anyone have any idea what else I can do to troubleshoot this or even how much fixing a shorted USB 2.0 circuit board.

Help.
Bill

Make sure the USB port is not disabled.

It could be completely disabled in the BIOS, it could be disabled in the currently active power profile, and there could also be a problem with the device driver (check Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager).

There is firewire on the HVX.

USB on the HVX should only be used on Windows XP; for MacOS you'd use firewire.

To use USB you have to set the OTHER FUNCTIONS->PC MODE to "USB DEVICE". Then set the cam in MCR mode by pressing the MODE button. Then hold the mode button down for three seconds until the cam goes into PC mode. If you've connected it properly to a WinXP computer's USB 2.0 port, the HVX should bring up the message "USB CONNECT" and the contents of your cards should pop up in Windows Explorer as two external hard disks.

FW cables run about ten bucks and you can get them at most variety stores today, Home Depot, etc.

If you have a Mac, that is the way to go.
