My shoulder mount rig for Canon C300

This is my camera set up using a mix of Zacuto and Redrock Micro parts. You can see from this angle, it kind of has the profile of an ENG camera.

I started off with a full Zacuto Stinger kit, but quickly realised it was going to be much too heavy and cumbersome to use. A friend came around with the blue Redrock bits and we started stripping the rig down to a more basic form.

So what you see here is the Zacuto C300 shoulder mount and rails, with a Zwiss plate on the rear. This has a wireless plate pro attached to the side. Then I have the Redrock handle at the rear, which is close to but not exactly at the centre of gravity.

At the front I have used another blue handle, as at the time the photo was taken I had the Zacuto grip relocator on order but it had not arrived yet.

There have been a few more changes to rig, I’ll keep you posted…

Looks great, Bluedisk! How's the balance on that rig? It looks like it might be a bit front heavy. Do you have any plans for counterweight? Also, what's the mic you're using? That one looks like a nice size for the C300.

i probably won't mount the rear handle on top of the Zwiss plate as it is mounted right at the end of the rails. So when you carry the rig using the top handle, the rig is not going to balanced but face tilting downwards. Kind of risky i feel.

Yes you are right, it is a little front heavy, and the photo shows the shoulder pad a little to the front, whereas i normally have it pushed hard up to the Zwiss plate. Having said that its a relatively light rig and I am able to have the camera on my shoulder for a reasonable length of time with no discomfort.

I tried it with the Zacuto counterbalance, but it really felt like a very heavy rig, the sort that you would need to have a grip working with you. Its comfortable enough now, and I really quite like its profile.

The camera mic is a Sony camera mic pinched off my PDW 530 XDCam.

Oh, and the pictures are just beautiful.

I know what you mean, but I wanted to keep the profile low so it fits in its case. It feels very solid and sturdy despite how it appears in the photo. It is front heavy when carrying but still well off the ground. I know its not well balanced but I am reasonably happy with the compact size of this rig.

I did try the Zacuto Camera Carry handle as well but it felt less stable as it was connected by just one rod. I guess there's not a perfect carry handle for my rig right now.[h=1][/h]

Here is a more up to date image showing the Zacuto Grip Relocator on the rig.

If you are wondering why I have the Redrock Micro handle instead of the Zacuto one, its because I didn't want an articulated handle, it just something that is there to use occasionally. My left hand is usually on the lens pulling focus.

That is an awesome rig, and has just ordered one and waiting for it to be delivered. Now sense I saw this photo I am anxious.

What rig did you order? Don't forget if you order too much stuff you can always send some of it back within 7 days (depending on the supplier)..
