I also thought the band running off was kind of gay (not that theres anything wrong with that)

lol John, I like how everytime you say something is gay you always have that statement right after it.

Oh and good job in the video but I have a couple things I didn't really like. the intro because it seemed a little long and over dramatic . As you said a lot of those scenes were flashbacks but to me I wasn't too sure what was a flashback or not. I think you should find a way to make it a little more obvious it was a flashback but then again it could just be me being dumb blind guy. To me it seemed more like a performance video. I did like your camera movements though. jeez, only in highschool? Keep it up! i wish i was makin music vids in highschool

Everything looked pretty cool (intro was kinda wonky), but I agree that you should try and synch up the drum hits a bit better.

I have very little to say, but I did notice something that threw my eye off.
A couple of times, the camera would roll into the scene, stop, then move a little again. It brought to mind the thought that the camera wasn't in the optimal position for the shot, so it was adjusted.
Was that intended or just overlooked?

what you could do to make it more obviouse that it is a flashback is maybe change the color dramatically. That way you dont have to re shoot anything. Make it look completly different from them playing in the streets and playing at teh concert. I think the problem was that it flowed sooooo well (thats a compliment) that it became hard to distiguish between flashback and present day. I'm not sure how to make it look different with out messing up the quality but thatll be up to you.

another thought would be to have them visibly get more angry with each other every time you go back to the flashback in the living room. kind of pull a tarantino. Show close ups of their faces progessivly giving other members of the band hairy eyeballs until eventually on of them snaps and BOOM your back at the beginning of the video. Then people will realize that them in the living room was a flashback.

Congratulations on the music video! It's always fun to shoot a music video, especially with a handheld 24p cam!

I noticed some things that you could try to work on for the next one. Try diversifying the shots and the cuts: it had a linear, projected undertone, i.e. ms-cut to ms to ms ... the more focal lengths you use, the more dynamic your music video will be.

When I shot my last music video in college (about 1 year ago) I experimented with lots of messed-up angles, ideas, and concoctions. You should really try to have fun with it and be yourself on projects that are yours, so experiment and do what you want to do, and it will show! Because it looks like you have a basic tool set, but you are, like many of us, limiting yourself to shots that you are most of the time nearly and not fully satisfied with. So definitely, on your next film, do whatever you want and make the film you really want to make.

On top of that, good job, and good luck with your next one!

I think the beginning is weak because it took me until the third time through to understand the band was breaking up - "this bird is flying solo now" is almost unitelligible... That and the first sign is hard to read - I missed the first time through. And yeah the end seems gratuitous and does nothing for your narrative.

I can see why the suits want to lose the living room. Compared to the rest of your footage it is bland, and no one really wants to watch a band in a boring ol' livingroom.

The song is about regrets right? Perhaps you can shoot some footage of band members off on their own, doing their own thing but not enjoying it... They're not actors though so be careful with how much you ask them to do in the way of acting.

I think you have a good concept and great footage! Just take some time to look at what you have, start rearranging the pieces and see if you can't come up with a way to tell the story in a more compelling manner. You have most of the pieces already, you may have to shoot a few to fill in the gaps, but getting them in the right sequence will really push this video to the top...

Dude; there is no way this a DVX100. I need photographic evidence. Somethign is off damn it

I actually just read this and I guess It suprised me some, I hope you mean that in a positive sense( as opposed to thinking it looks like a consumer cam haha)
but it is all DVX. And if the question is about wherether or not its dvx100 or dvx100a....well it is DVX100a though I dodnt know there was really that much of a difference.

As for the photographic proof this is the closest thing i have

photoproof1lg.jpg

you can like almost see my dvx in this shot...its part of a take of the library shot which i didnt use(i did the dolly and the keyboardist didnt end up actually playing) This is me and my dvx getting caught in the reflection of the vindow, the front of the lense gaurd thing is almost visible in this pic....I enlarged it and brightenend it up a bit. If you watch the vid again you can actually see me in the reflection for a split second before i dissapear behind a beam and become invisible :)
