My P2 Workflow

Ok so I will be filming my first event strictly on P2 on Wednesday and I wanted to know what you guys thought my workflow should be like.

I will not need to be offloading in the field as I can come back to my setup at home and offload then.

Here's my dilemma. I have a newer Intel MBP with no PCMCIA slot as well as a Sony VAIO laptop with a PCMCIA slot. I am debating whether I should use the VAIO to offload the P2 footage or just use FW800 to capture to my MBP as I will be editing on there anyways. Would then probably use P2 CMS to transfer footage over.

What do you guys think? P2 to PCMCIA in my VAIO or HPX170 to MBP with FW800?

if you have enough P2 space to cover the whole event. P2 is definitely the way to go.
you can connect your camera to your macbook pro via usb and transfer after the show. no need to introduce the sony into the situation.

is your camera going to be on a tripod? thats the ONLY way id suggest going the live-capture route...

yeah my camera will be on a tripod for the majority if the event but i will most likely need to take it off at the end of the event to get some handheld footage. I think you are right though. I will leave the Sony out of the equation and just offload straight from my camera to my external HD's attached to my MBP with P2CMS.

are you sure you have enough P2 room to cover the whole show?

and personally, depending on your needs.i wouldnt bother using P2CMS. you can just drag and drop the footage to your drive.

I have 2 64GB P2 cards and a 16GB card. I think I should be fine with that much space.

I was thinking about recording 720PN/30FPS. The people speaking will most likely be pretty still up on stage with not much movement so I would like to maximize my recording time without sacrificing too much quality, considering they will be pretty still and not too intensive of a shoot for my camera to handle.

What's your opinion on best settings for shooting an event like this?

Thanks

i think youre on the right track with 720pn30. though if there wont be a ton of panning on stage, you could go 720pn24 and buy yourself some more time...
