If you didn't like the Canon because it didn't give you the look you wanted out of the camera then I would think you would get another DVX. From what I understand, the Sony isn't going to give you the color that you want out of the box either.

If you're looking for the film look then the DVX is a solid performer, however from what I've seen and read, the colors from the Sony are just as accurate as the DVX. Actually, the colors from the FX1 looks better.

MattC, the Sony and other camcorders with a custom preset can give you colors you want. The final result is comming allways from a hardware and software solution, and the from you pushing the record.

The problem is most of the new users can't find the custom preset option. The Magic Bullet is a winner because it is a one push buttom software. It gives you the 'filmic' result. You can make the same result within Vegas, Premier, Pinnaclesys (realtime), but you have to know what to do.

If you watch the posted videos here you can see the different between users. One DVX movie is so videoish and the other is so filmic. It is the cameraman's knowledge what makes the difference.

I'm sure Sony FX1/Z1U going to be a winner for a time. If I buy a new camcorder now I go for a Z1U. It has PAL DVCam in 16:9, sound, presets etc.... and the higher resolution in HDV. I was working a little with the FX1(PAL) now in DV. It is a better DV camcorder than other for the same money. The IRIS is just fantastic compered to PD150/170. The LCD is very good. The focus react at ones you touch it. It is interlaced but the colors after tweeking it in camera is filmic.
