AC160 My new AC-160

Just bought the new AC-160 after testing it for a while. There are two questions remaing and I hope someone knows an answer to his:

1. if you run the cam on dv format, will the picture quality exactly be the same like it was recorded to a dv-tape? provided of course the two cams have the same lens, sensor, and electronics ... theoretically? So is is the dv file a dv tape without a tape? :-)

2. I read different information about the hd-sdi output. does it deliver 4:2:2 colour range or just 8 bit?

Thanks for you help. Maybe I can give advice to someone else, too.

Sascha

1. Yes. You could in fact send the signal via FireWire to a dv deck and record it to tape if you wanted. The dv .avi files the camera records are exactly the same as if you'd recorded to tape and then captured the footage to a computer.

2. The SDI output is 8-bit 4:2:2.

Hi Barry ... thanks a lot for your reply. Does that mean, even if I import the AVI Files to a Mediacomposer, the result would be the same as if the picture came from a dv tape? Or does do I actually have to import by firewire?

... and besides that: have you written a book about the ac-160 yet? I own your book on the hmc-151.... great!

I'm not an Avid user but I can't imagine there would be any problem, just import the AVI file into the bin. I tried them in Vegas and Premiere and they worked perfectly.

And yes, there is a brand new book out, "The AC160 & AC130 Book". Anyone who bought a USA model should mail in the coupon (in the box) to get a free copy. If you don't have that coupon, the book is available right now on Amazon. Thanks for asking!

Hi Saasha congrats on a new tool...

I am awaiting my set to reach me next week. Mine's an AG-AC160EN though...

Anticipating mine set.

Hi Barry. Just ordered your book on Amazon. Great there are people like you who are so deep into technical details. That saves a lot of time finding out everything on my own :-)
