So this is my second music video, directed/shot/edited, and apart from my cousin driving the car (acting as a dolly), it was only myself and the artist on the shoot - you do what you can on low/no budget projects.

I break down some of the artistic choices on my site (here for those interested), below I'll discuss some of the technical aspects. Feel free to critique (or praise), I'm my own worst critic but I occasionally miss something I could have improved. My goal is to simply have each project be better than the last.

I shot this with just a Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM with WideDR in-cam, used an iPad slating app to sync audio, edited in FCPX and graded with FilmConvert.

My largest gripe, which was more apparent while editing, was losing focus. It was -35C (-31F) out, and the glare on the LCD meant it was often tough to judge my shot. The viewfinder is obviously useless, but even more so here as the top of the C100 was touching the roof of the hatchback. Plus being the weather what it was, we only had so much time to shoot before frostbite kicked in. Luckily I was intercutting it with news footage, so it didn't turn out to be as much of an issue and actually gives it a bit of an artistic flare. But looking back, I could have brought up the f-stop, something I'll be more aware of in the future. Coming from a background in broadcast news production, DSLR cams aren't yet first nature to me.

What I'm happiest with is the pacing. Filling a 6 minute song with purposeful visuals can be tough, but I think it stays interesting until the end.

Feel free to comment/critique.
