My life is a steaming pile of...

The only good news I can see in this at the moment, is that you now have the chance to define your character for the rest of your life.

Very very true.

I'm glad to see you back here Super Trooper - I'm sorry to hear that you've have such a bad thing happen while you were gone.

Take heart in what everyone here is saying - it's how we react to these sorts of things that defines who we are, and who we become. Don't let it sour you for long - when I had a similar situation happen to me with a family member a friend told me "resentment is a poison that detroys it's container" I've tried to keep that in mind ever since. It's easy to let yourself stew in anger - but in the end the best thing you can do is let it go and concentrate on your own success - not the other person's failures.

As everyone has already mentioned - the credit issue can be cleared up, you're still young and you've got time to bounce back financially. What's important is that you not let it crush your spirit - and I'm glad to see from your post that it looks like it hasn't.

Keep your chin up.
And welcome back.

Welcome back, my man...sorry it is under these circumstances.

I tried to find the now classic "FLOW" thread that you missed out
on, but came up short...

I thought it might bring a smile or seven to your face...

Fellas, if you can find the link...

actually... Read the book Flow. that might cheer you up.
this is straight out of a movie man... these are the kinds of stories great artists have. you'll come back, a lot better than before. hang in there.

I'm really sorry dude.

Wow.

Speechless...

You have a great attitude about it though.

I wanted to be a filmmaker but had no idea about how to get into that or broach the my lack of technical knowledge, until the DVX made that leap possible -- but point is I couldn't do it until I was 33 so you have some time.

As for the other stuff, your mom and your family are in my thoughts - I hope you guys find some happiness soon and that she gets some relief from whatever demons are chasing her.

But you wanted something funny .... hmmm ...

Q: How many surrealists does it take to screw in a light bulb
A: Fish.

Sorry that's all I got :)

Here's one for you Super Trooper -

Q: How many directors does it take to screw in a light bulb?

A: Just one more guys, I promise.

Or how about the one about the director and the producer lost in the desert?
(Stop me if you've heard it)
A director and producer are lost wandering in the desert. They are both dehydrated and in danger of dying of thirst... when suddenly in the distance they see a beautiful oasis. The sprint with all their might towards the lush trees and bubbling pond ... the Director immediatley falls to his knees and starts to cup the water into his mouth. FINALLY! Some water.... just as he's taking his first sip he hears the sound of something hitting the water. He looks up in horror as he sees the producer pissing in the pond.

"What the hell are you doing??" yelled the Director.

The producer matter of factly looks at him and says, "making it better."

lol,

- how many actors does it take to screw in a lightbulb ...
- I dunno how many?
- one to do it and a bunch to stand around and say they could've done it better.

- How many militant feminists does it take to screw in a light bulb?
- I dunno h-
- THAT'S NOT FUNNY!!

God ST, that sucks.

If you ever need anything, we are here for you, just ask.

You have the rigth spirit to get back on yrou feet a run again. Heck if you want some more inspiration, get over to the Sci Fest area. I know that someday you will make a 6 minute short that will put every single one of those in there to shame.
There's also some good comedy in there too.

..and for some instant humor.
The other answer to the how many directors to change a lightbulb joke:
A. One. They hold the bulb while the world revolves around them.

You can do it, and we will help you.

Hang in there Supertrooper. Just gotta roll with the punches, dust yourself off, and keep your spirit burning. You'll get there.

My mom did the same **** to me when I was your age. I lived off of friends hospitality and canned food for a half a year. I like to think it made me a better person, it sure showed me who my friends really were. My advice to you is to contact all nessessary athorities, I don't know if this applies but try an intervention, and remember that no matter what things will get better, then worse, then better, such is life. Hope everything works out for you man.

Money comes and goes, Ideas last forever. Don't worry man, take a look at history. People have done changed there situations far worse than what you have described, I'm not saying what happened to you is not bad, its bad alright but you are your own future. Make of it what you want, don't let others dictate your life.

Can't add much to what's been said, man... Hang in there, life tends to throw **** at us sometimes. You are my age and you've got a whole load of time to get back on the track. As a filmmaker you must learn to appreciate the fact that you've gone through all that stuff for it's an invaluable experience that gave you food for thought, feelings, emotions... material you will be using later on.

But since you're now determined to pursue your dreams, anyway, I'll simply quote Nike:

Just ****ing do it

All the best, Super.

Just can't imagine how bad that has to hurt right now, but you'll make it through it. It's a great opportunity for personal growth if you look at the positive. You can grab the situation by the balls and take a stand for yourself. It's difficult because it involves your mother, but like others have said, she's in the wrong here, not you. All you can do is take care of yourself.

The credit thing as others have said can be fixed. Most credit card companies don't hold you liable for things charged if your card was stolen. So, you may not have to pay that back. Call the credit card company asap and explain it to them.

Keep your chin up, and start writing your killer story out of all this.

Ouch. Damn dude. Sorry to hear about that.

Keep up the optimism. It has been said that we make our own reality. We're all here for ya.

sorry to hear that bro. life can suck sometimes, I know.

I was in the same situation but it was from my dad who I only met four times in my life. What a scum bag move.... I eventually cleaned up my credit and moved on.

You are a victim of fraud, you DO NOT have to pay for these acts. Call the credit card co. and speak/fight with the fraud dept. That's what I did and I didn't pay a dollar for anything.

ST - You have every right to be angry and want to vent. Don't hold anything inside. ...But your attitude is great. Make this a "come back story" that you can tell newspapers and magazines when you make your first film. You can do it! And you have a huge support group here that believes in you. I'm very sorry this happened, but I'm sure you'll come out on top.

Definitely take Kai's and coffee's advice. Most of the time credit cards have insurance and illegal purchases don't need to be paid back. You probably already looked into this and the credit card company is being a jerk. But keep fighting, maybe they'll settle. Not sure if you told the police, but a police report will definitely help your case. You've already prepared yourself for having to pay it all back, so anything the credit card company can do to help is a bonus. It's worth a shot.

Good luck and never forget, a "trooper" is someone who never gives up and never backs down. ....And you are the "Super Trooper." (That was cheesy.)

What a sad bit of news. I had reservations about reading this thread and now I know why. I really hope you stay in good spirits, it's the most important thing. This will give you some excellent time to jot down everything you're going to film when you get your camera. That way when you get it, you'll have shorts coming out of your ears. Good luck. Tim.

Damn man, I thought you had went ahead with your HD rental heist to Canada plans.

You can definately get yourself back going. When I was 21 I was living in a stairwell off of Main Street in my town with more or less nothing and lived with more or less nothing for about 7 years. Now at 32...ok, never mind this ****, but you can definately get yourself back going.

It may not result in anything, but perhaps you could meet with the dean of the school and expain your situation. Being a straight A student and having suffered such bullshit he might just cut you a sweet deal...tell him/her you'd even be willing to work at the school to be able to go...let them know that you're willing to do whatever it takes to finish your education and just see what happens.
