My journey with the FS700

Hi Dao,

love the Hayes Night clip you made, your filming is really starting to shine!

Just a few questions if I can,
1. What lens did you use for this?
2. Did you use any lights or all natural?
3. What sort of steadycam did you use?
4. Did you use any sliders, or mainly hand held/steadycam?

thanks mate, look forward to more videos!

With the night shots, I can tell you now with 200FPS I was getting flickering...which you can see clearly when he jump on that water etc, then I change to 100FPS and bring down my shutter speed to 100 - and keep my iso to between 460 - 1000... I wasn't getting any flickering at all. Now this is for PAL country. The lens I was using was the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8. I use the my metabone speed booster which give me more stop...so I was shooting it at f1.4 which we all know this camera is amazing in low light. All my shot was handheld but some of the shots with my son and his friend running I use Warp Stabiliser in Adobe Premier CC. When I do the running shots it was at 200FPS...I still have to try and keep the camera very steady...and my horizontal line camera straight to match subject in front of me. No slider Matthew. Galde you love it.

Daomay,

Nice work! Can you use the full zoom range of the 18-35mm when using the speed booster? The Sigma 18-35mm 1.8 is a cropped sensor lens so I was curious of how wide you can go on the lens without heavy vignetting.

Thanks!
Rob

No you cant m3rob, if you go to wide then you will get heavy vignetting....unless you have a a normal adapter that go from EF to Nex. Just remember it is pretty heavy at the front for run and gun. Thanks

Hi Dao,

Sorry mate, with these questions I watched your commercial on vimeo (Hayes Knight) and was wondering if you could give a reply to the questions in relation to that video, I think it looks so great!

Nice work! How are you mounting your rig to your car?

Hey buddy, The shot with him running toward the car, I open the booth and I use my tripod and stuck in the back of the booth...sorry but I should have taken picture....and get my friends to press record and I start driving and he start running hehe. As for the shot with him running and I was filming from the side...I just mount my monopod to passenger sit and when I was ready I press record...then I start driving he start running hehe. A bit tricky but it work....I am more of a one man show but i like to challenge myself and my shots. remember I have to tell to stay within the frame of the lens. I hope that help.

Hey Matt,

1. Canon - 16-35m for wide, dept of field carl zeiss 50mm, and canon 80-200mm for the zoom
2. All natural light
3. HD400 with the Mark 3 and the canon 16-35
4. Handheld for all shots, except for the interview I had to use a tripod...All that in 4 hours.

I think you guys might like this one, I very push my shot with low light and pushing how far I can go with overexposing the during the day to bring out the highlight to the face. No noise reduction cause then you can see that beautiful noise or grain hehe Enjoy

1. One camera (SONY FS700), one lens (wide), one voice..Mr Tyrese Gibson, one soundtrack (Kites), one love, one inspiring short message.
2. Two hours at the beach with son, two hours of fun, it take two to tangle.
3. Three hours to edit, three people came up to me and said what you filming?
