My intro. Dvx100a outdated? now, HVX200...

With the dvx track record, and with the respect Panasonic and its cameras have in both the film and video industry, it seems very unlikely for this camera to fall below expectations. DOn't forget, the main thing panasonic is going to push for the future is P2 and, seing more closely, at IBC next friday, the HVX 200 will be the main focus of the Panasonic Broadcast division. They sure feel confident about the camera- shouldn't we?

Agreed :-D

You can pump yourself up all you want (that's what these kind of forums are for), but better wait somewhat. The trade-off are there in the HVX, I'd rather not be unpleasantly surprised if I find 'em out after I bought one, guys....

Mezelf27, The thread is about whether or not Justmarvin should wait for the HVX200 - and from everything we can see it is worth it. Of course it is better to wait and see what it actually can do and all, but there is nothing wrong with recommending him to wait for this one. At least to see if it can live up to the hype...

actually I was commenting your certainty in the last post rather then the general topic... I just can't see anyone considering OR the DVX100A OR the HVX200. They're SO different... and there's a whole world in between...

Disagree.
I think this HAS to be considered in his case. Justmarvin is trying to make the right choice.. if he can afford it why not wait for HVX200! It will be so much better for so many reasons. Of course there is the odd chance Panasonic have created something bad, but it is built on a proven concept the DVX100 - hardly see your comments are relevant - sorry.

My point is this: if there is money and the DVX100 is weighed and considered too light...
Think about the XL2, The sony Z1, the JVC HD-100, ....
It's not like there's no choice...

There are more brands out there then just Panny. If he choses the HVX, fine, but better consider the competition too. (and - errr... - I'm just trying to be realistic, not eagerly trying to kill your optimism....)

I have read enough about the competition to believe HVX200 is worth waiting for. Will it come true, time will tell, but it looks like it is worth waiting for and that it will beat the competition for Indy filmmakers..!!

When you list those cameras it does come down to the DVX100 or the HVX!

Maybe I'm just biased!

I couldn't agree more. I didn't mean it will be a bad camera, I'm pretty sure it will be good, but we should be careful not to recommend a product that we have never even seen or touched! I would recommend waiting for it though, if you can. If not buy the current camera that best suits your needs and budget.

I would even say; Justmarvin spent the time waiting for the HVX200 in reading about the dvx100 (some things will stay the same), digital photography and cinematography, how to set up good lighting, sound and sound recording on sets, screenwriting and how to direct actors.. Trust me the months will pass quickly ;o)

I am still waiting for another nine books about these topics ;)

D.

I think its fair to say that the HVX is a safe bet. IMHO techincally speaking its the best pound for pound in specs on PAPER.

The only thing I dislike (no product is perfect) is the form factor, I was hoping for more of a HD100 style, but hey you can't have everything...

yea I know now people are going to jump me for saying it, I know for some people the form factor is perfect, and indeed I'm not disputing that, you just have to appreciate that different peoples needs are ... well... different! :)

bottom line:

If can wait get the HVX its a good investment, both for now (great SD cam) and for the future (good *real* HD), think of it as a trans-migration platform (i.e. from SD to HD)

If you want something NOW, the you really won't go wrong with DVX, its a very mature product now with lots of support, plus its now "tried and tested"

Wow.

I haven't been able to get online for this past week. But I'm on now, and surprised to find this thread having jumped from 1 page to 6 pages. I haven't had the time to read any of the new posts yet. But, I'm so excited to read all the new additions to this thread! Feeling kinda like a little kid waiting to open up all his presents.

Thanks so much for all your posts. Will hear from me on this board soon!

Thanks again.

Cheers,
Marvin
