Looks pretty slick :)

How do you connect it to the HVX? I don't know how that works at all. Information is much appreciated :)

Very nice, It would be sweet if you could mount this on a tripod handle.

EDIT: Does the focus/zoom line up exactly with the focus/zoom rings, or is it an infinity?

Simon, it hooks up to the camera using basic audio cables, and all the button and potts do is finish the circuit. there is another thread on here that has a wiring diagram for it.

Edit, the focus and Iris are dependant on the location of the pott, the zoom however the more you turn the pott the faster it zooms.

I made this one with the ability to plug 30 ft into it, so I can control it while its on my moco rig, I will be motorizing the focus and zoom so that I can hook it into the moco rig controller.

Cool. I am working on somthing similar to this right now, except that mine will just be zoom and record. I had an old broken toy robot, so I opened it up and it had this really nice connecter inside. My plan is to use the short end on the controller, then attach 20' of wire to the other end of the connector. It just clips together, really simple, and it is really strong.

I've been told that I should try to sell them, or make them to order, while they are not hard to build, I guess some would rather buy than take the tim to round up the parts and build/wire it. does this seem viable?

Ya, for sure. If you could make one with a more dvx like zoom (with out the pots some how), Id be interested. And maybe without the focus/iris, as the dvx100a doesn't have those ports.

I think that the hvx timecode "out" just goes through the firewire, so it would be super complex to use it in this situation.

I'm sure I could put a light on it, thats my next step to try to wire in an led light, red would be logical, but i'm thinging purple lol. as far as a time code read out, I will look into it. but you get the time code on your monitor so i'm not sure why it would be needed.

Not sure if anyone is that interested but here is the DIY configuration for our controller. From left to right the switch is for going between two focus settings, focus pots, iris pots switch, iris pots, zoom pot, rec button, cable jacks. We use this a lot with the jib, dolly, and vehicle mounts. Basically anything not shoulder or steadicam mounted. Oh and one suggestion that we have yet to incorporate is different type/feel knobs for the focus and iris pots.

bob this is sweet, I like the focus iris idea, would make pulling much easier. I think I am going to steal this idea.

do you like the plasit box? I used this same plasic box on another project, to mount my usb servo and motor drivers in, and felt that for something like this it would be to flemsy, was I wrong?

Steal away. As for the project box it is more that robust enough for this application. All the controllers that I have built for our kit use these and they get dropped a lot and still work just great. That said, I wouldn't use them for anything mechanically intensive though.

gi, I was thinking somewere around 200 - 250, keeping it cheeper than all the others out there but enough to cover parts and time.

Ha, I'm opposite. All I really need is the focusing :) I'm thinking I might try building one myself first though. I found the diagrams in the other thread, and it really doesn't look that hard.
