My HMC is still a virgin-should I update?

What's the consensus? I've not updated my firmware as it sounded as though some folks had 'issues' as a result of updates. All seems fine sans update but I just read that there may be an improvement in grain/noise with the latest firmware...Does anyone care to share thoughts? Is there a mac-specific process? Many thanks...

havent updated and still running the priginal firmware from intial release. Not sure about the grain / noise fix. is this true?
 
Rikki looks the same to me but with less sharpening on the right !

The noise pattern is different and to me that looks like sharpening....
If the settings are Identical as u say ,Panna must have done something to the sharpening settings aswell.
Looks better but like u said not miles.
BTW it looks abit like the noise pattern Ive seen on the new Af-100 ..yes form vimeo..the repost of the Crewstv first test with the model. FLAME ON !

Dont know the answer there. The direction of light is different, the left is front lit so looks sharper where as the second image the people arent lit by the blue light at all so its softer. No sharpness settings have been altered this end and the actual video itself looks fine - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mIDuVIT2Bk
