My hacked Gh2 is killing my Af100

It's just plain true. THe hacked Gh2 with the "thirty" patch (http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthrea...uot-(Quantum-7-P-frame-720p-Patch-for-30MB-s) ), combined with transcoding in 5D2RGB (use transcode in full range) is smashing my Af100 in picture quality. Now, this doesn't mean I will shelve the AF100. I do like built in ND, waveforms, and sound. But I'm getting some pretty darn hard to beat images out of the hacked Gh2.
Indeed. VK's hack is the revolution itself :-)

There are still advantages the AF100 has over the GH2. Many of them actually. I recently sold my AF100 and already miss many of its features and capabilities that just aren't in the GH2. And my EVF image is jittery on my GH2 because of it's weird output. That's a big disappointment. There's always compromises.

Go watch the SCCE shootout and see how well the AF100 holds up there. It's actually impressive for a $4k camera.

Please - not this drivel from PB. Phil is a likable bloke and all but this stuff he puts out is not my cup of tea.

I'd like to see what dusty lens is seeing ...

I'll try to do a side by side later this week as I'm a bit busy. I'll use same lens, color temp, and scene.
But here is what I am seeing. Fine tight grain like noise that really does not jump all over the place. Crazy detail. Grades wonderfully. Consistent 150 Mbits/sec. And with using 5d2rgb I'm able to get a nice wide gradable latitude when I use "full range" or the typical baked in when I use "broadcast" settings during transcoding.
Again, I'm not going to sell my AF100 because of this hack. But I am going to use the Gh2 a lot more...

How is the banding, is the fine grain noise helping the codec to not show it more on the GH2?

And one thing about the AF100 is the rolling shutter is twice as fast, so when you need a little more motion in the scene, it will be good to have that and not get bit by it as much as you would on the GH2 (in non-ETC mode).

Banding looks better. I'd have to shoot more stuff with it. I agree on the rolling shutter, which is why I'm not dumping the AF100. The gh2 really does need good handheld rigs or just stay on tripods, cranes, or sliders. But it is quite amazing what these guys are doing with these hacks.

GH2 can also really minimize rolling shutter if ETC mode used.

For us, on our two GH2 bodies, the Driftwood hack has helped immensely on banding (see Driftwood compilation - we have a wide dolly shot in there with plenty of blue sky for example).

More. these are tiffs.

Now, lets imagine Panny released a Gh3 with what the Nikon D4 is doing with it's uncompressed out giving 422, increased the sensor read out, and just slipped Vitaly a version of the firmware by accident. It would be no contest. Is the Gh2 the best HDSLR with the hack? Not sure, it's funky to work with. But you are able to get incredible images out of it with the right hacks (and I'm sure more are coming). One thing is, you can get pretty stealth with it where you can't with the AF100.
Don't worry Barry, I still love my AF100.

I'd like to see some side by side comparisons with the 2 camera, same lens , same frame, same subject material when you have a chance...

So would I... but then again, there's dozens of reliable shooters who agree that the hack is far sharper (including Mr. Bloom). Not that sharpness is everything, but it certainly is a nice thing to have.

The AF100 is what it is... Which is why I predict an AF200 will be announced before the year is done.

Just look at the Philip Bloom Christmas shootout and you will be quiet. The GH2 hack is fantastic, so all the stories told by panasonic experts like Barry that a higher bitrate will not matter? Barry where are you now? So come from the mountain Jan and give us a higher bitrate in the AF100 and stop telling us bedtime stories. If you don't, we will still love you, but......

someone give me a 2/3" 1080 camera with a 8x F2.8 fixed lens with a 50-100mb codec and let me be on my damn way already

i don't need 4K

i don't need 3 centimeter DOF

i don't need to forget that LIGHTS are a part of my job as a filmmaker/videographer

heck i don't even need sdi, just hdmi for monitoring

someone for F**cks sake take an EX1 and drop in a 2/3" sensor so i can have "my" be all end all ideal cam for event and narrative work.

sorry. had to get that off my chest. my 5d, ex1, and af100 just looked at me funny
