GH3 My GH3 With My New Carry Speed

WILL the VF4 FIT A GH2 WITHOUT MODIFYING IT?
Where is the dealer that is offering the $50 off price?

thanks,
jeff

Adding a quick release plate is possible, correct? But it looks like those holes on the bottom of that plate are not optically centered, so using this with a set of rails would result in the camera being off-centered. Is there any way around this?

Thanks to everyone for the helpful feedback. I've picked up the cage and VF4. I quite like the VF4 and it definitely makes a difference for manual focus.

By default, the cage/VF4 fit is as depicted by Qatastrophe, but I have some ideas on how to alleviate this. I'm waiting on some parts and will update this thread when I get them.

The GH2's screen is too short for the VF4 to fit under the GH2's EVF (so that it mounts flush to the LCD). The VF4's plate needs to be pushed at least 1/8" lower for the loupe to fit (though there will still be a gap of open space below the camera that you'll need to block off it distracts you). Unfortunately, adding spacing to the baseplate as described earlier in this thread will not work because the screw to mount the plate will no longer reach the camera when you add 1/8" of spacing on top of the plate.

So, to get VF4 to work with the GH2, you would need to:
  1. Increase spacing between baseplate and camera by 1/8"
  2. Get longer camera mounting screw (at least 1/8" longer)
  3. Block off gap of open air in loupe (as GH2 screen is shorter than the loupe).

All the same, I haven't had good experiences with magnifying the GH2's LCD. The pixels just get huge and the pixel grid becomes very distracting. Thankfully, while not the sharpest, the GH3's screen is sharp enough to be useful when magnified.

Also, I don't think there are any current sales on the VF4. However, back when there were $50 sales, the VF4 was also priced at least $50 higher than it is now (currently just a touch over $100).

I'd suggest taking a look at John's video on his GX7 rig for more details on mounting rails to the VF4's baseplate.

VF-4 for sale in Market Place

VF-4 for sale in Market Place

I hope its OK to post this sale reference outside of the Marketplace ads. If not, the admin can feel free to delete this and scold me in no uncertain terms!!!

So, if anyone is interested, I have a VF-4 for sale in the Marketplace section. I decided to replace it with a Zacuto Z-Finder so I'd have focus assist and false color. The VF-4 is a great gizmo and comes in handy, especially in challenging light situations. I have modded mine with a thicker rubber pad on the mounting plate and longer mounting screw, for a custom fit with the GH3. I have the original rubber pad and mounting screw, so the VF-4 can easily be returned to stock condition.

Have a great 2014 everyone.
