my footage is VERY GRAINY

i just bought my camcorder and i didn'T had time to check the setting. when i got home all my footage is pretty horrible. it got grain everywhere. my cam setting was at 0 everywhere . maybe it was the cause. is that normal that straight out of the box the image is grainy

I've had mine for about 2 weeks. The first 1/2 hour or so of footage looked like crud. The factory preset scenefiles are fairly cruddy too. I've done a mod of the scenefile "spark" for some outdoor stuff I shot last weekend and its spankin hot! +2 detail +4 coring used b press gamma and mastped -14.

My only gripe so far which I haven't been able to master yet is the exposure. I find it hard to get an evenly exposed shot. Maybe my knee settings are wrong or something like the a. iris level setting. I'll get it sorted out next shoot i'm sure,,, Barry's book has all the answers Pascal. One other thing, check to make sure you ain't got the gain set at +12dB

oh thank you so much. i'll do the test tomorrow with those settings with a candle to see what,s going happen.
here's some screen shot . all setting to 0. Gain is 0. Letus extreme

I agree, something to do with the adaptor,,, in broad daylight with this much available lighting, I still don't think you could force a grainy image with the settings on an HMC150.

do you think it's because of low battery that can cause this? like because it's low the adaptor is having difficulty to spin? if not how can you fix that GG setting?

Definitely the adapter. Make sure that a) the ground glass is vibrating, and b) you *cannot* use a high shutter speed, even 1/120 is iffy. Don't use a shutter speed faster than 1/60.

When using the adapter, you're probably better off to just set the shutter to "off".

it was vibrating and i was at 1/48. maybe the battery was low so it didn,t turn that fast. maybe the Focus was not made to the ground glass

i did some scene settings and it was my camcorder. now my footage is not as grainy. it's crisp. maybe the adapter was going out of battery but the camera with 0 settings, will grain like creazy. that's weird

i just bought a 150 yesterday and i'm having the same problem. Grain everywhere! could you please post your settings and how you solved the problem.

We've heard a few reports of people with grainy HMC150's, and most everyone (if not, in fact, every one of them) has reported the situation being hugely improved by doing a menu reset on the camera. Reset it to factory defaults and it should look much better.

what i do is have my master ped down to -93, and both detailing down a little bit and i get no grain whatsoever. also make sure your gain wasn't on
