My first wedding

Put a wirless mic on the groom, about a full foot down from his neck. You'll pick up him, the priest, and the bride super well. Then mix that in with the ambient sound like you already have. Dip to black transition too long. But really nice for a first wedding! Reminds me of how tough those things were to pull off. I don't miss it, my hair line has receded enough.

I shoot with the HVX excllusively for youtube and I have never achieved this quality. It is great, simply. I think the problem that I have is that i use Adobe premiere, and altough the export menu shows H.264, the result is crap. I always end up exporting to Quicktime Animation and the reexporting from there to H.264+AAC. I wonder if you could send me the scene file that you used or the exact specs used for capturing the original footage. The most important question is: is it possible to export directly from Premiere pro 2.0 Quick Time H.264+AAC ?? How ??

Dude, great job.. I did one wedding and would never do it again! Been in film biz for 12 years, and I was never more stressed out.. I like having control of a situation, but a once in a lifetime (hopefully) wedding is something I'd rather not screw up.. "excuse me, can you do that all over again, i forgot to press record"

Have you thought of changing the music?

Actually there is no music on the original for the client.

yea they suck, but there's money in it so I'll do it for a while. At least till I get some of my bills paid off. A funny thing happened during this wedding. It was near the end and I looked down at the firestore and the battery was almost dead. OH SH#@!,:furious3: I had a plugin where I could plug in but I left the adapter in the truck. I panned the camera back for a full shot (the couple was on their knee's at this time) I snuck out a side door, and sprinted to my truck on the other side of the church. When I got there it was locked SH%$! :furious3: my wife's got the keys, and she's in the church. Oh wait there is a code I can punch in on the door but I can't remember the code, SH#@!:furious3: Wait! I have the code wrote down in my wallet. I reach for my back pocket....OH SH$@! :furious3: my wallet's in the church too. Then I say the hell with it I got 1 P2 card if I have too I'll use it. Mad dash back inside, sneeking quietly back in place, look in the viewfinder....OH SH$#!, :furious3: The groom is saying his vowels and his head is cut off because he is standing up now. I hurried up and panned up and got what I could. Luckily I had other shots from the church from before that I just put in there when he started speaking and then switched back to the camera after I panned up. So After it was over I actually forgot all about the firestore and looked down and it was still recording. WHEWW!!! Talk about stress. This was only a $200 video but I think I lost a couple years off my life that day. But I did learn a lot.

I hope this was your first or they are friends, cause 200 bucks for a wedding doesnt even cover the ediiting. Also the Color Correction looks WAY better. GREAT JOB...

Yes both my first wedding, and they were friends, I'm basically trying to get a good rep going before I start charging normal rates. And I'll tell you what, someone else said something I was reading about the cheap clients wanting more than the higher paid jobs was right! They've kind of been a pain, they are happy with the video, just love it, but asked me to change the font in the credits and titles because they can't read it very well. I shouldn't have used it anyway so I'll fix it for them and hopefully this will be the last I see of this wedding video, talk about stress! But hey I asked for it. Next wedding I'll get all the info up front and finalize it before even shooting.

Great job on the video - I feel for you being stressed at the church, that's the worst part. You received some awesome feedback, but I don't think anyone mentioned the final shot. It appears to be a repeat of a shot that you showed just before. You have a beautiful ambient shot of the three candles being distracted by the card with the writing in the foreground and the glare of the hallway lights in the background. Wasn't feeling the love the first time and even less on the second time - not the greatest final shot. A quick tighter reframe of the shot would work - but not to see it twice. Final shots should be one of your strongest images - something that would leave the viewer wanting more.

Just checked the second edit and what a dramatic difference. Great job with the CC. As for adding the audio, I think your heading in the right direction, however, I couldn't understand what the priest said with all the echo, it may be better to leave that clip out. You may also try adding lines from the vows under other segments of the video, leading up to the bride saying her vow synced with her video image. That way the audio portion doesn't stick out so much as being in just one part of the video.

If the shaking camera bothers you, After Effect can remove some of it with its Motion Tracking option(I think in the Pro bundle) If the shot is not too wild it will slightly scale it up an adjust each frame to match the anchor point that you select. Great for short shots such as camera sway - not great for fast movements or jerky shots.

Anyway, keep up the great work and in no time the referrals will be rolling in.

Damn good stuff for $200 !

Damn good stuff for $200 !

That was pretty good, as an ex TV news shooter I do have one point to make.

You can come back with all the colors off and that problem pales if you come back with bad or no audio. Your piece would be more stunning if you spent some extra bucks on sereval wireless mics. At least tape a lav to the church speaker and get the pod mic off that.
Also, I'd never use pre recorded music. I am curious, did you mix in some shots from the wedding rehearsal ?

Take care,

Patrick

Thanks, mic's are my next purchase and also a better tripod, mine was a little shaky. For the customers dvd it didn't have prerecorded music and all the audio was recorded and left in, these video's are more of a demo than anything. I figured out that I also need a white balance card on me at all times, save me in the cc'ing dept.
Thanks
