After having shot two silent films I've moved on from the Jean du Jardin school of film making and finally shot something with a 'proper' script. I say it like that because it was for a 48 hour film competition and we pulled the story out of our ass at the 25th hour. Our genre we picked out of a hat was sci-fi.
On the camera I used two old Nikon lenses. A 50mm 1.4 and a 24mm 2.8. One of the good things about filming in a warehouse was that it had really good lighting to begin with so I didn't have to bother setting any up. It was also darker too in some places which worked out nicely.
So it was my first short shot with the GH2. On a long spending spree a while back I somehow ended up with a juicedlink dt454. One thing I knew was that I wanted to sync the audio to the footage directly on the card. Reviews said it was alright so I'm giving it a shot. I rented the Sennheiser ME-66 only because I didn't have enough for the deposit on the 416....
The juicked link was sometimes a hassle to work with. I think it recroded the left channel slightly higher than the right channel which I had to fix in post. Near the end of the shoot and even during my initial testing the signal would cut out for whatever reason and I had to gently play with the XLR-L knob to get it back working. I'm just glad it didn't happen during the first 3/4 of the shoot. I can't really say what I think of the noise quality because we shot in a warehouse and there was a fan in the background that really made things a bit noisier. Overall it was a good cheap test run and really helped me see where I need to make some improvements in my workflow.
Check out the vid though, hope you enjoy.
