My First Music Video

Very impressive for a first video. While the music isn't my bag, I thought you did a very good job of matching the video with the music style.

What did you edit and do color with FCP?

Thanks! Yeah hardcore isn't my favorite either, but it makes for fun video.

Editeded on Premiere CS3 and colored with Magic Bullet Looks.

Criticisms?

It definitely fit the genre as much as I don't like that type of music. So props on that.

Cool set-up with the hanging light bulbs. Seems to have worked out surprisingly well.

Really cool ending shot with the overhead grid and the lights on and off. That was cool.

I think there were too many close-ups when it was cutting around rapidly. It was hard for my eyes to focus on something with it cutting that fast and being so close up so it made me a little dizzy. I would say tone down the crazyness just a tiny tiny tiny bit.

I also don't like how in music videos that aren't on tv when people put in the director/band info in the lower lefthand. That info is displayed on television so people know what the band and credits are... but on the web they are never found in music videos by major artists since you can find that info in the title and description

:bath:

I think the close-ups and fast cuts add to the theme of the video. I really liked the style it was shoot.

Also liked the "ceiling angles" something most of us don't think about or can't do on regular productions.

love the shot with the lightbulb swinging around the front of the camera

I like the end style, but i didn't like the long audio fade. I thought the song hadn't ended yet... I would expect a short and fast end. Maybe that shot would work for the beginning better! i don't know!

Overall i liked it a lot, great job for a first video (I would have thought you had a lot more experience doing this if you hadn't said it was your first)

Steve I thought you did a good job, some nice editing choices thats for sure. Id like to make two suggestions

1/ Get off magic bullet and start using a real CG app. One that lets you paint with a brush as opposed to throwing the entire contents of the can at the wall.

and

2/ Ive seen similar videos to thise many times before. Whilst your take was good, its just not original. Dont feel the need to do what everyone else does.

magic bullet looks will let you do real color grading- start with a preset that gets you close to what you are looking for and adjust its settings

in terms of imagery and editing, it fit this music style well. I did have to mute it after the first 10 seconds- and it sounded much better :)

Massive shame about the level of ignorance towards this genre of music, but to each their own!

Thought the video was great!

Avid has really nice CC tools. Helpful if you aren't a mac guy. Also After Effects.

What shutter speed were you using?

Props to you, This was brilliant. You have a great talent and you will go far in this business, if things don't work out for you Come up to Canada and I'll hire ya!

I watch a lot of HMC footage posted with no audio. Just cuz. You can really take a good look variation in style and looks without being influenced by the sound track. That really looked good. Going back now to turn on the amp.

no ignorance here, just don't care for the music.
the video however totally rocked!

great shooting, lighting and editing.
really showed that you had your concept down before shooting...so important.

perfect video for that song/band.

did i mention how good the editing/fx was? =)

Interesting shot at 2:20 - wood door getting destroyed. Looks like a bit of work for the two seconds of video. I think that speaks volumes about your effort, and it certainly shows in your work. I would be interested in hearing how that shot was derived and accomplished. Appears to be time lapse destruction by various means.
When i clicked on link for your "first music video", I certainly did not expect what I saw. I think you did an excellent job. How much time did you spend shooting and then editing?
Again, great job!
