Hey guys,

This is my first music video, full specs on the Vimeo page.

Shot with a Canon 550D and Sony PMW EX3 + M3 with Nikon Primes.

Keen to hear your thoughts!

Wow, that was awsome!

Good to see that there is some work for us in Australia :D

What lenses did you use, and what sort of grading/colour profile did you use?

Thanks!

We shot using Nikon 28mm f2.8, 50mm f1.4, 85mm f2.0 and for one shot I pinched a Canon 16-35mm f2.8 off a photographer that was present.

We shot flat and used some Mojo presets and some custom Colorista profiles.

Looks good man. I really like the first few shots in the field. Excellent selective focus. Guessing that came from the 1.4?

Sound sync isn't 100%. Looks like it might have been the singer not quite being able to sing in time to the track though. Before a music video shoot I always tell the cast to practice singing to their track a lot before the shoot date.

How are you finding the M3 and why didn't you shoot the entire thing on the 550D?

Thanks awbacon, the field stuff was handheld 550D with the Nikon 50mm f1.4 and from memory anything static or on the CineSlider was the EX3 with the 85mm f2.0

@ analog_addict I think the syncing could be off very slightly in places, but Vimeo seems to exacerbate it a lot, playing back the native cut there isn't any problems.
As soon as it's on Vimeo, well.... you can see how bad it gets. Sometimes pausing for a second then playing again smooths it out.

We shot on what we had, the budget for the clip was about $170. So we decided to use the EX3/M3 combo on the slider as the 'A' rig and have the 550D pick up more alternative angles on a shoulder mount as the 'B' rig because we knew time would be against us. There's some limited stuff of the EX3/M3 on hand held too, it's pretty heavy with a SmallHD on it too.

I love the results out of the M3 but it is light hungry against a DSLR and is still a ***** to setup, but when you get a sweet shot out of it I think it's a more filmic look than DSLR.

I like the grade, For having to deal with a POS of a song.( Not to mention the singer is tone deaf, and should consider either taking lessons or find a new occupation). You did a great job. I concur with your thoughts on the m3, It does have a nice filmic look to the footage. Overall this was really good quality.
