My first movie

Well, here it is - such as it is. I made this film as an excercise to learn how to make a film. To learn the technical side of film making so that I could then focus on the purely creative. It's compressed to the hilt with Flash so the quality is not top notch image wise - If someone is interested you can PM me for a link to a full 720P HD version of it.

Comments and crits welcome.

Not bad. Kudos. but you might have better luck with responses if you post this in the screen grabs and clips section.

cheers.

Fun and really well done first effort (good for a second, third, and forth effort too). Your talent seems to really understand the material. A sign of a good director.

Good luck (looks like you won't need it)

Like everyone else, I agree that it was well done. Definitely a nice short for your first film, and a great place to start showcasing your talent. I wish my first film was that good.

The one thing I noticed, but is actually in regard to your post mix...the song over the closing credits is louder than the rest of the film. It's not a big deal, but one of those little things that can make a great film even better.

Again, nice job.

Thanks a lot everyone! It was a lot of fun to do. My next film is 7 minutes long and should be a real hoot - Not a comedy this time - just a twisted little story :)

David Evans (Notso Bryte) was actually a grip on the shoot. But the actor I had gotten for that role called me up about an hour after his call time and said he had to do some re-takes on a film over at Universal (ugh). David had never acted before and he got the script after I got the call cancelling the original actor. While no Cary Grant, I thought that David did a wonderful job.

He did really well considering! And this movie made me actually laugh out loud. That does not happen a lot! I am going to show it to my wife.

I have to agree with the many comments here. I thought that you did a great job with your first film. I like that you didn't seem to bite off more than you can chew but still managed to add some elements of skilled filmmakers. I can only hope that my first film is worthy of posting!

Hope you find great success!

And Big Kudos to your grip-turned-actor! He did a great job!

Not bad. Someone once said a film is a short story and a short is a one liner. It's sort of accurate. What I'm trying to say is that many shorts try for way too much in the time they have and fail. I think you got it just about perfect. We didn't waste time on stuff that didn't pay off and we were not inundated with details that didn't really matter, it was just right.

Work on the zoom out and work on the sound mix more but those are quibbles, especially for a first film. Pop some bubbly and celebrate.

Thanks for the great comments, guys. Noiz, can you be more specific about the zoom and sound issues for me?

What he might mean (I noticed this too) is that when you first zoom out from the title of the book in the beginning, it is unsteady and shaky.

Overall though, great first short.
