your opening song is about a boy who befrinds a rat. there are many love songs to choose from so i would definitely choose another song for the opener and the music is too loud for the dialog. thats just my opinion

I was only interested in the first few lyrics of the song and not the song as a whole. If you isolate the words you can see that it is appropriate for the picture. Despite being about a rat, the lyrics are touching and sentimental and one can apply similar sentiment to humans.

"This song was used in an episode of Queer as Folk where Michael Novotny is trying to win back lover Ben Bruckner. (thanks, Allison - Portales, NM)"

i hear what you are saying and you might get by with that for those that are not familiar with the song. i just think that it would be more compelling if you used an actual love song to express that portion of your video. or just take the instrumental portion of it and loop it. other than that good work.

The sound is a killer. Like bigmajik said, the music is way too loud in the mix alongside dialog. But then, all of the dialog was poorly recorded. Much of it had crackles in it... overmodulated? The conversation with the groom when they were in the carriage sounded like it was recorded using the built-in stereo mics and was barely audible over the traffic noise.

Many of the shots were off level, showing tilted buildings and other edges that should be vertical. Hand-held work was shaky. The editing was rough, with errant shots and music that suddenly cuts off for dialog, and transitions that don't fit the mood.

The video superimposed on the skyscraper didn't make sense, but even at that it could have been maintained through the transitions rather than appearing and disappearing. The interview that follows has a terrible key on it, aside from bad lighting and poor exposure.

Your self-interview had way too much headroom.

And putting "the end" on a wedding video... not really appropriate for what it is. Of course, putting "the end" on almost anything is a bit cheesy. The viewer should know, through the editing - the sound and the visuals - that this part of the story is over.

Thanks for your inputs...this is my first love story as an event videographer. The NYC scenes were shot using a DVX100B with a Azden SGM-1X Pro shotgun mic. The rest of the scenes were done with a VX2100 with Rhode mic. Am also new to the DVX and was struggling with the audio controls...I am reading thru the Barry book now.

For the music I used the smart sound and set it to background or dialogue.

All the edits was done in one day since the groom lives in CA so we had to do all the shoot in the week of the wedding. Not much legroom.

Yeah, I know CS5. Just wasn't aware of a "smart sound" feature (I don't use the software myself), but in my experience anything that claims to automatically take care of something as intricate and delicate as a sound mix is bound to fail.

@C2V go to http://www.smartsound.com for more info...it's a pretty popular software now for scoring.

Ah, that Smart Sound. I was a beta tester for their first incarnation years ago... had almost forgotten about it because I never really used it that much.

That said, just having it compose with a "background" or "dialog" setting does not mean that it isn't going to fight dialog in the mix. That just means that it adjusts the instrumentation to take out heavy lead melodies and instruments that are too close to the human voice. You still have to adjust the mix when you edit.

I did not really edit the audio. from the cameras.

Why on earth not? That's the biggest source of issues here, as far as the sound is concerned. Sound should have just as much attention in post as video (if not a little more).

Have read few articles that emphasized on audio. I was up till 6am and had to cover the wedding the same day at 12pm.

Is this a good start though? I did this one for free but would like to market the idea to my future clients...
