So, i bit the bullet and did a software upgrade to Windows 7 and CS5. I was running on XP with CS4.
Firstly my system is a Core2 Duo 2.33Ghz 4GB Ram and a 8500 GT Graphics card.
Windows 7 runs pretty sweetly, but i have turned off some of the visual cheese just because i'm not a schoolgirl that needs to be excited by a transparent title bar.
Only really played with Premiere so far but it runs AVCHD footage pretty much the same as CS4 did, but it seems a million times more stable. I did an edit with 720 50p stuff slowed down to 25p with my playback quality set to 1/4 and it edited like dv.
In CS4 i had all sorts of problems with Time Remapping going completely out of sync and being absolutely useless, CS5 seems perfect in this department so far.
So was it worth it to upgrade software before before hardware, definitely.
For some more tech stuff that i dont really understand:
My Windows experience scores were:
Processor: 5.8
RAM 6.0
Graphics 4.1
Gaming 5.5
Hard Disk 5.9
So all in all if you thinking of going 64 bit to edit AVCHD natively then do it even when you have to turn down the res while editing.
Rad hope this is useful to somebody.
