hehe, now how do I blow it up :) !

(Done in 3Ds Max 7)

Wanting to blow up the earth.. umm.. :undecided seems a little worrying.

...

..In Max you'll need to create a "bomb" and bind the physics of the earth to it. run a Search for "bomb" in the help.. it'll tell you all about it.

Awesome Taylor! Nice !

(I'm really getting into this new avenue)

Thanx John...be careful to not got sucked into the bottomless vortex of 3D....as you will never be seen on set again.)

The issue I am having is:

1. I select PROPERTY < TEXTURE MAP < XY

..at first I was getting the imagery on the model that looks like this:

Then, I would select the GREEN BOX and suddenly the TEXTURE MAP THINGY would disapear. In the tutorial it does not dissapear so I got stuck sitting there trying to figure out a hundred ways to make iut come back again.....

---

But wait, theres more

---

Now, even after all that I am not even getting the TEXTURE MAP image to show up on the bike at all.

Am I missing some setting that would prevent it from being shown? T

This is my current issue

john - im a little confused

you say when you select the green box, the texture map thingy disapears....do you mean it stops showing the texture on the model?

i think i need a little more info.

btw, the way you are apply a texture map only applys the texture coordinates, it does not apply an image to the model, that is another step. "PROPERTY < TEXTURE MAP < XY" only tells xsi how to apply a texture image should an image be applied to that model.

here is a pic of how i apply almost all of my textures.

hope that helps

That's it Rich!

Thank you thank you thank you. The step I was missing was selecting the Material to apply (damn it)

You rock!

Always hooking me up with knowledge!

So I came across a 3D training link, but it's for Maya: http://www.digitaltutors.com/store/product.php?productid=418

My question is this: If they're teaching to do the same bike in Maya, which costs upwards of THOUSANDS of dollars, yet you can do the same exact thing in XSI, which you can get for as little as $500 (less than our NLE's) ... what's the difference, just name brand?

Are the programs out there like Maya, XSI, Cinema4D, 3DS Studio Max, etc. pretty much like the NLE's we work with ... all pretty much the same?

I'm interested in getting into 3D, but since I'll be self-taught, or using DVD tutorials, I'm interested in the best bang for the buck, and the one with the least amount of learning curve (most intuitive).

Thoughts?

the 500 dollar version of xsi is different then the 6000 dollar version of xsi. called xsi advanced, its the same core software but with things like cloth/hair/dynamic simulation and some other stuff.

but basicly, they all do the same thing, some easier then others. some have different work flows. but once you know what button does what from one software to the next you can start to easily figure it out.

i personaly find xsi much easier to deal with then maya, xsi comes loaded with lots of cool stuff that lets me work faster, i have been doing a project in maya for over a year now, and i mis xsi.

however, the one thing that i do love about maya is its character animation, it has a couple features that make character animation easier and faster.

one cool things about xsi 5.0 is that you can switch its interface/hotkeys to be like maya. its pretty cool, i was schoolin a maya dude in xsi with that interface and within in an hour he was rendering a dynamic sim of spheres droping into a room with radiosity.

The bike is qworking out and I'm ready to move into the Animation stages; before I do I wan;t to add some tweaks the tutorial did not cover; I wan't more detail and eye candy!

I'll post a grab a bit later!

Lookin good Hudson!

I've been completely hooked on Cinema4D studio bundle lately. I'm mainly using it for broadcast design/mograph, but its quite powerful. It has a thing called BodyPaint (like maya paint) for applying textures to models that makes it as easy as brushing them on.

Tks Kai!

Here is the official tutorial version of being ready to animate (except the afterburn) ; I'm still going to play with before I move forward however.
