My first 3D design

I am onto the 3rd disc (of 4) in Digital Tutors 'Intro to XSI' CD Tutorial. I can honestly say I was so intimidated by the idea of 3D design and graphics as it seemed all so overwhelming. My tune is drastically different. I find it to be very intuitive and just plain easy to do.

I have only begun to scratch the surface; but I believe I just found a new hobby (LIke I need new ones). Here is my space bike 'So far...'

Stay tuned for the finished work soon!

Okay, now can you take that and use it in your nle as a CGI component? That would be cool.

I hope that didn't come out wrong. I think the 3D bike looks great, just wondering if that's where you were headed with it.

It's not done; I'm doing texturing right now. And yeah; it pretty much is going exactly how i need it to; it's fun!

Considering it's my first attempt ever..... Who really knows where I was headed ?

Tks Envision!

whoa...

I have never hear of XSI.... it looks that you can doo some pretty good things with it.

and yes...texturing.... Grrrrrr!

Very cool John....Very cool I don't even want to think how fast that thing would go, It's like...A jet engine with a seat!!!

VERY nice work there John.

I doub't I could pull anything like that off, and I've been at 3D for 2 years... :embarasse

From Avid - Arguably one of the top "big gun" progies
Technically yes, Avid purchased SoftImage. But I don't think Avid had to much to do with the development of SoftImage 3D|XSI|Digital Studio...

John, what training CD's do you have and where did you get them?

oh man! thats great all I managed to do was this earth tutorial:

Man, that's impressive John. I've never been able to learn anything from tutorials, which is why i don't know much.

Seriously, good work. I think 3d is the most mind bending work out there, except for astro pyshics...I sent those tutorials back. :)

Thanks guys

I'm stuck on one part though; texturing layer adjustments. Something isnt jiving so Im questing for an answer

Wow, that's impressive. I spent months trying to learn 3D Studio Max and never quite "got it." I'm going to switch to XSI, I think.

My friend's an XSI whiz but I won't see him for a couple weeks but I'll ask if I do see him before then or if he ever gets around to sending me the XSI manual (250mb pdf, I think). The texturing set up looks pretty complex but he loves it, so maybe there's some method to its madness, but I sure don't have any idea.

The issue I am having is:

1. I select PROPERTY < TEXTURE MAP < XY

..at first I was getting the imagery on the model that looks like this:

Then, I would select the GREEN BOX and suddenly the TEXTURE MAP THINGY would disapear. In the tutorial it does not dissapear so I got stuck sitting there trying to figure out a hundred ways to make iut come back again.....

But wait, theres more

---

Now, even after all that I am not even getting the TEXTURE MAP image to show up on the bike at all.

Am I missing some setting that would prevent it from being shown? T

This is my current issue

Great work John XSI is a very powerful tool...good luck.
Also the foundation version of XSI is very resonably priced.
XSI originally another great Canadian piece of software ;)

Here a still from a project I did last year for Discovery Channel.
Done in Maya 5.
