GH2 My final video shot on GH2?

This is the project I shot on my GH2 just before receiving my GH3. I have to be honest; I was/have been so satisfied with my GH2 that I'm not sure what to think yet of my GH3. Perhaps it's because I'm still learning its quirks, but I haven't gotten the GH3 to produce anything that looks superior to my GH2. Sure, the higher bitrate gives me more info in the shadows to grade, and the noise looks more like film grain, but there's something sexy about the GH2 that I haven't been able to reproduce yet on the GH3. Moire and aliasing have indeed been a problem.
These are unquantifiable opinions, I know. Just wondering if other GH3 owners who used to have a GH2 are happy, or if they wish their GH3 produced images more like the GH2.

Anyway, here's the music video I shot on my GH2. I'm proud of it.

Sell your GH3 and buy two GH2's....... GH3 is a better camera inside and out, if you are not happy then sell it, problem solved.
No need for anyone to convince you, if you like something better go with that

Wow, that is truly marvelous.
The profile 2-shot with dust particles in the background was my favorite shot. I'm also taking notes for a good use of shallow DOF.

Wide shots were Tokina 11-16. Various shots were with old Nikon 28mm and 50mm. But the secret weapon was the Canon FD 35mm tilt/shift lens I got from my dad. That's what I used for the profile shot and many others.

Not a very helpful answer. I don't think this is what the OP was asking at all. But I get what you are saying about a potential flame war. I kind of agree with what he is saying about the wow factor so far. I want to see it in someone's work. I know it will be done ....it's just a matter of time.

dvbrother...this looked great....regardless of the camera used. Did you shoot this in black and white or was that done in post?

loved the video
- great steadicam work too-
what did you use steadicamwise did you have to stabilise in post at all

Loved the shadow work - and the sound was awesome too.

Thanks!
I shot in color but monitored in black and white on a SmallHD DP6.
I wanted the ability to control the monochrome in post.

Thanks for the compliment!
Actually there is no Steadicam work. There are a few shots on the stage where we used an inexpensive jib. We also had a cheap dolly that ran on PVC pipe for tracks. Those shots needed no stablizing. There's a "walk-and-talk" shot with the singer in a dress that was hand-held on the wide 11mm. I stablized that a bit with Smoothcam in FCP.

beautiful work, straight up man, I grew up in Akron til 16, My folks live in Stow, and my brother Hudson, nice area, lots of talented folks out of NE Ohio.

Nice video. I hear nothing but good things about the GH3, but a nice hack on the GH2 is so close, it does seem like a tough choice, especially if there is "something" subtle you feel is in the GH2.

The video is a great example of how lighting is often more important than the camera. Nice video.

Thanks. Yeah, like I said in the OP, it may be that I still need to figure out how to get the best image out of the GH3 for my style. Many people want a "flatter image" so they have more room to grade in post. My style doesn't really need that, as I tend to light for more contrast, and I usually have control of my lighting. I actually like the punchy contrast of the GH2. Maybe all I need to do is set the contrast to a higher setting. I've been running it at -4 or -3, which are both flatter than the GH2's lowest setting of -2 IMO. And the damn GH3 moire and aliasing has bitten my images on more than one occasion which irks me because I NEVER had that problem with the GH2. And the GH3's intervalometer is faulty (other threads confirm this), making it worthless for most time-lapse shots. Apparently, the firmware upgrade will fix this. If so, that'll make me a bit happier.
I haven't yet shot a project on the GH3 where I've played to its strengths. When I do, I may change my tune. It IS a better stills camera than the GH2. Skin tones are much better.

Great video & song. Talent as seen in this film is more important than any particular camera I think. But certainly there is something special about the GH2! :)

Very nice work. I especially think the camera moves were well thought out.

I've been using the GH3 since December. Shot loads of video experiments and four projects, and never once missed my GH2. Like any camera, the GH3 has a few issues, but image quality and especially handling definitely best the GH2. Contrary to popular misinformation, if you stay away from All-I, moire is NOT an issue. Haven't used 24p, but 50Mbps 30/60p video IMO is stunning and edits very nicely.

I'd say the GH3 is two steps up from the GH2 image in look and codec choices, and three steps up in handling.

Good luck with your GH3.

I love your work Dan, and respect your opinion. I think for the type of shooting you do, your opinion is spot on. But for narrative work, and shooting 24p, the gh3 has a more pronounced video look than the gh2, This is of course nothing but my opinion. Maybe it's the slight change in sensor size, or just the new sensor all together. IDK, but even when I watch PB'S promo film, certain shots look so videoish to me. Maybe is psychological or something, idk :)

Dan, thanks for the compliments on the video.
I have avoided the All-I codec. I shoot 24p using the 50mb/s setting. But I have encountered moire and aliasing in situations where the GH2 would not have a problem. Actually, I NEVER had the problem with the GH2.
I agree that the codec is better, the ergonomics are better, stills are better, audio is better. Time code, clean HDMI out, ability to use focus assist while connected to a monitor, etc. In many respects, the GH3 is a vast improvement.
But the IMAGE. Like others have said, there's something different enough from the GH2 that leaves me a bit cold.
If I get time, since I own both cameras, I should do a side-by-side test of the two. The goal would be to see if I can adjust the settings on the GH3 to replicate the sexy look the GH2 seems to output effortlessly. My hunch is it's just a matter of Contrast settings. Perhaps I'll do that this week.

I've shot a lot of video with the GH2 and just finished my first multi-day project with the GH3. Much like Dan, I also prefer the GH3's handling and features, especially the 1080/60p, much more than my GH2. Looking back over my GH2 footage and comparing to what I just shot this weekend, I prefer the GH3.

Panasonic should really fix the onscreen display disappearing though. Terrible feature.
