My film is very dark on my television....any suggestions?

I burnt a DVD of a short bar scene in my film to see how my color correction would work on a television. The picture, despite looking really wonderful on my HD monitor, seems very dark at certain points on the television. When I added a gamma correction filter and brightened it up a bit, the quality was lessened (there appears to be "fuzziness" overlaid on the entire scene); in other words, the picture doesn't look as sharp as it should anymore.

Is there some other filter I can use to brighten up the darker scenes? Thus far I'm using the 3-Way Color Corrector, Brightness and Contrast (contrast only), and Gamma Correction. Any advice would be appreciated.

Sincerely,
Trigonis

I've had similar (Though not identical) problems, I think it may be due to a digital monitor being able to display from intensity 0-255,while a TV signel is from 16 to 235. Keep a close eye on your waveform monitor whilst grading, and grade so the shadows are a touch light. apart rom that I can't think of any filters, though more experianced folks on this forum will know better.

Cheers,
Dave

My guess would be gamma issues.

I use BitVice, not Compressor/DVD studio to make my MPEG2's for DVD's.
One of the options is a 2.2 gamma overide, aswell as fantastic encoding quality.
My DVD's look the same as my Mac screen - I run this at gamma 2.2 anyway.
