My current P2 workflow

Let me say that 'P2 Genie' has been great! Tony did a nice job with the PC version. I'm to understand that he will further facilitate the workflow by implementing some type of Avid collating feature.

Hey DC,

Great posts! Quick question....

Did you have to format your external HD in any specific way (FAT32, NTFS)? Did you have to create partitions, or could I just use P2 Genie and dump each card into a 320GB drive without partitions (except the main one)?

I'm planning to dump the files on a PC laptop into an external drive, then edit on FCP....any specific settings you recommend?

Thanks,
MC

For a PC laptop to FCP edit, just format the drive as FAT32. You don't need to worry about partitions or any of that.

However, you may need to use a formatting utility to format the full drive size on the PC. Windows is limited to formatting FAT32 only up to 32GB, which is an artificial limit. You can get much larger partitions (up to 4TB, I believe) by using Partition Magic or Swiss Knife.

Yes, Barry is correct. I just format one large partition on the external drive. Since my entire process remains on the PC-Windows side, I don't bother with FAT32. NTFS is far better. I recommend Partition Magic to achieve your desired results.

Cool! Somehow I missed your announcement of this.

Nice work, Tony! As always! :)

I d/l'ed it but haven't installed it yet. Can you tell me a little bit about the installation and how the program works? Is it an add-on for P2 Genie or a standalone product? Do you need a license to run it?

Thanks!
