C500: My C500 Rig/Set up

Hi everyone, my name is Shen, long time lurker, and first time posting here.

I want to share my C500+Odyssey rig set up here, I actually got the camera this time last year, but was using it as a C300 while waiting for the external recorder to come out... and finally Odyssey is here.

My 7Q arrived about two weeks ago, but was waiting for the D-tap to arrive and that has been taking forever... So I decided to pull the trigger on the enduro power plate with v-mount battery from ocean video. It worked out pretty well, except that the neutrik cable is just long enough to reach the odyssey... therefore the movement of the monitor is very limited. Not a very big deal for me since most of the time it will be in that position.

The rig I'm using is the ultra cage + powerpack from redrock, very solid and I like it a lot. The power pack can dial down the current from 12v down to 8.4v from the battery, just high enough to power up the camera. This way one battery will power the camera and odyssey all together. The battery can last for 3 to 4 hours no problem when the C500 is in 4k mode, usually two V-mount batteries can last for the whole day for me. When I'm shooting in HD, one v-mount battery lasted for whole day...

I settled for two 256G SSDs for now, each one can record about 14 to 15 minutes, so gives me around 30 minutes total. Really looking forward to the 2k capability, that's where the camera will truly shine imo.

Will be taking out for a spin soon and some real world testing...

I have another suggestion. The battery plate you purchased from Enduro is actually designed to physically mount onto the Enduro back that is on the monitor. Why not place the battery there and then run off the plate's D-Tap to run the rest of the rig? That way you will have much greater freedom to move the monitor around on the rig.

Hi Mitch,

Thank you very much for your suggestion! That was my original plan, but after I tried that it throws off the balance if I am doing handheld, and I like to grab on to the mattebox when I operate... The rig right now is very well balanced when it sits on my shoulder and my AC likes to pull from the other side and not get in my way. :)

Nice setup Shen! Glad you're liking the ultraCage setup.

Did you know that you can power the Odyssey7 from the powerPack itself? You would just need to get a 3-Pin Pigtail connector and the Odyssey7 Flying Lead.

This would give you a bit more options on monitor placement too.

Just a thought, but good looking rig!

I was thinking about something like that as well! But the delivery is taking a while here in Canada... But I will definitely look in to it in the near future!
