hi,

my C100 will start each clip with 3-8 "stills" / "frozen" images. the audio start playing properly but has "non moving" video then the video starts moving and all is fine. the last 1 or 2 frames of audio seems to get "pinched off" as well. the audio "is" in sync though. its always done this and I'm now at a point that i want to deal with it by maybe having to send it in. I'm not using pre-roll. im shooting 24p.

here is a download of an unedited ProRez LT clip.

anything toughts?

thanks
david

p.s. i just noticed that the C100's MTS does not seem to have this problem. so im thinking the converter im using is doing this. is anyone using the "Brorsoft" converter for mac?

Yes. Both of my C100s and AC130/160 do this for clips converted with ClipWrap. It does not happen on every clip, but enough to be an annoyance as it slows down Final Cut when skimming over the "bad" frames. I think it has something to do with the structure of the AVCHD compression. The clips do not seem to exibit the problem when brought straight into the editor as compared to an outside wrap/conversion.

I've been using QuickTime 7 Pro to destructively trim the front and back frames from the converted .mov clips before bringing them into FCPX.

hi nate,

thats interesting that ClipWrap does the same thing. going into each clip and manually having to fix each clip seems pretty tedious.

is there any converter that doesnt do this?

thanks
david

I use Clipwrap and it does not do this to any of my clips! I'm using version 2.6.4

I have success with both converting to ProRes and just rewrapping.

Thanks for chiming in Paul. It happens to me on both my iMac (fresh OSX install) and my MacbookPro. Also using 2.6.4 - I wonder if it's a pre-record thing?

Very interesting. This is my first time noticing it. I guess I've never noticed those first few frames as I generally hit record before "we" start shooting anyway 'just in case'. I'm going to have to go look at some of my other transcoded clips to see if I see that.

what OS are you guys working on? I'm on 10.8.5.

the biggest issue i have i when I'm recoding something long like a play where the camera stays on for an hour or so. Plural Eyes then has a problem with syncing. the spanned video pieces end up off and i have to go in manually to place them with the other clips. on the shorter stuff its not a problem but just an annoyance that this is happening.

would love to find a solution for this issue!
