Hi,
I tried to export the video signal of my Canon 5d mark ii to my Ninja V (by hdmi), it doesn't seem to work.
I saw on your site that Canon 5d mark iii is compatible.
Is it possible that it doesnt work on the 5d mark ii?

I sent my question to Atomos and they asked me questions that i answered:
Can you confirm your camera is in video mode? yes
What resolution and frame rate are you trying to output? 1920x1080, 24p
Have you tested your setup using different HDMI cables? The hdmi cable works. I tried it with another setup.
Do you have a different camera to test your Ninja with? I tested the ninja with a Canon C100 and it works fine.
Can you try connecting your Ninja V to your computer to see if you will get an video input? I tried connecting my Ninja V to my computer and I see the image of my computer screen on my Ninja V.

The Canon 5d mark ii doesn’t seem to work on my Ninja V.
The Canon 5d mark ii is not listed on the compatible dslr on the Ninja V website.
I read on the internet that not many external monitor works with Canon 5d mark ii (especially since it’s an old camera).

Anyone has an idea of what could be the problem?
Thanks in advance for any help,
Have a good day!

All those questions/answers pretty much cover everything that would normally be asked, and the only thing left is to understand if your 5D Mark II outputs any image at all?

Have you tested it with your TV? If it does, make sure the HDMI output settings are set to 720p or 1080p.

IDR what's in the menu, but if 480p is an option and it's set to that, the V wouldn't see it.

If there's no output from the camera at all, the HDMI port could be broken.

If I am not mistaken, it only outputs 480i without the hack. Don't know if the Magic Lantern hacks change that part of the features or not.

Just hooked it up to both a Ninja V and an older Sony 5" monitor. Works on the Sony - not recognized by the NinjaV. Confirmed the output is 480i on the Sony.

thanks for your answer Norbor. My Atomos V works well with C100 in HD but not with canon 5d mark ii.

Thanks Say_doster. So Canon 5d Mark ii outputs only 480i probably and it only ouputs on your Sony 5'' and not your Ninja V?

But the question was does your 5D Mark II work with your TV...?

Nevertheless, it's likely a resolution output issue. SD vs. HD.

hi, thanks norbro, it works with my tv. I see the video. But when i record on the mark ii, the image stretches up, then when i dont record its ok.
On the Ninja V, no signal at all (but i know my ninja V works, since everything works with my canon c100)

The Ninja V only supports 720p at the lowest resolution, so if the 5D Mark II is outputting 480i or p (check the menu), the Ninja V doesn't even know what that is and ignores the camera.

Ironically, monitors had the exact opposite issue 10 years ago when they couldn't keep up with newer specs fast enough.

But in this case, the Ninja V is completely ignoring older specs because SD/480 is pretty much obsolete.

As far as the scaling that's happening on your TV, that's also adjusted in the menu (and the TV).

Thanks fr the information, interesting that 10 years ago we had the opposite issue.

i guess i will have to buy a monitor for my 5d mark ii.
I thought of buying this monitor : https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ....html/overview
Would it be a good monitor ?

(with this monitor i guess i would be able to view the video of my 5d mark ii. I don't plan to record video on the monitor, i plan only to record on my 5d mark ii. Are most monitors have the option of recording?)
Thanks

The monitor above won't work because its lowest resolution is even higher than the Ninja V's lowest (1080p).

You have to find one that supports SD, which might be difficult. Plenty of used ones out there though.

And again, that's only if the II maxes out at 480. (Did you check the menu?)

well i bought it on amazon last month hehe. The atomos v keep disconnecting after 1min, then stop 5sec, then the signal is back for another 1 min. Maybe its a cable issue but my guess is that the atomos and mark ii are not the ideal combo but i'll see.
Thanks Norbro for your help

I must admit I only use the Ninja V in ProRes RAW mode so did not even know you can set the HDMI to different versions. Thanks for keeping at it. I will check it out myself.

With the right Magic Lantern build, you can get the 5D2 to output 1650x1080 60i 4.2.2 uncompressed (1500MB/s or 1.5Gb/s) over HDMI, but I couldn't for the life of me get it to work. See this thread.
