Can't wait to try it out!!

For a relatively fast zoom, that Vivitar 70-210mm f3.5 looks intriguing for under $100...

NICE!!! You don't see many of those on Ebay. The fact that it came with an AF confirm M42-EOS adapter is icing on the cake. You'll be ready to shoot with that right when it comes in.

The Vivitar 70-210 3.5 is a great lens. I have the first two versions of the lens. The one made by Kiron is mine and the slightly more compact Tokina version is my wife's. I love them both. They are amazingly well built lenses.

Thanks Chris! It was the strangest thing - I had a photoshoot today and last night I was thinking about how much a nice 85mm would be for some fun, summer portrait work. Hopped on ebay, did some researching - got confused with Auto Takumars, Super Takumars and SMC Takumars...did more research and finally found the above lens.

Once I saw some photos of it, I was sold. Think that Vivitar might be the next purchase, so I have something across the range (I have a Tamron 17-55 f2.8 VC, a 50mm Canon f1.8, a 50mm Nikon f1.8, the 85mm f1.9 and hopefully soon the Vivitar 70-210mm f3.5)

I keep thinking I need something faster on the wider end (21mm/24mm/30mm/35mm), but that can almost wait as I'd like to have the range down first.

Shot you a PM regarding a lens too Chris - hope you don't mind.

Since this thread is on vintage lenses, I came across a great vintage lens site the other night.

Besides some great information on some of the most popular vintage lenses, there are also fantastic examples using modern DSLR cameras like the Canon 350D.

WARNING: This site very well might make you run out and buy up all manual lenses on eBay possible.

Enjoy!

Hi Kegan,

Sweet lens purchase! I have two of the Vivitar Series 1 70-210 3.5s. I have used it for the processional at weddings. It's great for that, but a little too slow for dark receptions. Your new Takumar, and it looks practically brand new, should work pretty good for darker receptions. Have fun going down the vintage lens road.

Thanks Mark! Just thought I'd come back and say that I got the 85mm in today and LOVE it. Beautiful photos (haven't played with video yet), but the photos are fantastic. I also did pick up the Vivitar 70-210 f3.5

I believe that was a great deal as well (still waiting on that one). I don't shoot weddings anymore as much, so I don't really mind. It'll be mostly for narratives. If I shoot a wedding, I'll use the 85mm with my 17-50mm and just move around a lot.

Thanks Chris. Love the lens. Can't wait to try out the Vivitar 70-210mm f3.5 Series I.

Now the 50mm! That's my next lens. However, its hard to justify ANOTHER 50mm as I already have a Canon 50mm f1.8 and an old Nikon 50mm f1.8. - I may end up selling one and picking up the Takumar version, but wider primes are more my goal for now I think. Perhaps something in the 24mm or 35mm range.

I've found the best place to buy lens is at a flea market. I just picked up 6 lens and a 42 mount 2x tele converter for $80. The seller knew nothing about these lens. Three are 42 mount lens. So. I decided to test my eight 42 mount lens side by side. I grabbed a 13 inch sdtv, for focusing, out the garage. Now that I wear readers that tv was a BIG relief to my vision. I thinking of buying a 15-20 hdtv dvd player instead of the 7 inch Liliput that's highly recommended.

Matt Gettmeier, audio stud on this site has a 17 inch monitor mounted on the leg of his tripod. Matt also build lights, dollies and xlr cables.

This was also my first try at color correction. It took over three hours to render the color corrected version. I really like the 42 mounts lens! vimeo.com Derrick Phillips or http://vimeo.com/13731658
