For the moment I am the only one who is having problems and perhaps I will remain the only one. I have received the camera on december 27th and until yesterday it was fine. Anyway I hope someone in Osaka reads this forum and start to consider that, perhaps, there is a bug somewhere in the color balance software and that a reset function could be useful

There's also the unfortunate but realistic possibility of a material defect caused by the failure of some part of a component. There are always going to be certain percentages, hopefully very low, of failure or defect, with any mass produced item. I hope that Panasonic finds it within their capability at this early stage to take care of your issue quickly, and discover the cause and address it if there are some bad components going in to the cameras, if indeed that turns out to be the case.

I've thought the same thing but after I have considered that daylight preset is OK: if it was an hardware component problem it should be affected also, isn't it? The second thing is that, after permorfing white/black balance (with lumix 20mm lens attached) I have seen clearly to monitor turning yellowish immediately. For this reason I have tought it could be a software problem.

I too am finding things looking quite green. But here is the thing... Through the LCD screen things have a greenish tint to them, through the EVF and the fil playbacks it's not so bad.... I really don't know what to do here, we need jan to chime in quite urgently to get this resolved.

Did you try a reset? See page 61 Volume II

tried that, did nothing. Thanks though.

I think i might have a dud.

Vic, this is what I'm getting:

greentint.jpg

yes. It's not the lens.

The picture should sum up the issue quite well. Both video from the same stream, one from the lcd, one from the marshall. Happening with the same lens at the same time. This isn't right.

Doesn't look like the same thing. All i know for mine is that the image it captures is great, but the lcd is a bit green.

Here are some variable to keep in mind when testing:

1. Does this happen when there are external monitors connected only or every time?
2. What ISO's does the screen show more or less green?
3. Does it change over time due to heat?
4. Does changing lenses change the result?

It happens every time.
The green is pretty much always apparent.
Heat is not a factor. Does it straight from turning it on.
The lenses don't change the result. Remember, I'm seeing the correct image on the marshall but not the camera lcd.

You are more "lucky" than me: you have the issue only on camera monitor, I have both issues, on camera monitor and on recorded clips. I've made other thest and these are my findings:
- monitor has a greenish cast
- daylight custom white balance performed with a white card introduces a yellow/green tint in recorded clips, mainly in the midtones and only in some colors. If I perform white balance with a grey card the amount of yellow/green is much less.
- overexposed areas tend to turn yellow
- daylight ATW is much better than custom white balance
- 5.6k preset is good
- both 3.2k preset and custom with balance with tungsten light show the same amount of green casting

I'll post some other clip

There is omething wrong with color management in my camera and in this moment it is not useable.

Hi Gary,

Find a "card" some shade of grey to white or yellowish white or greenish white which you can white balance on, that gives you the correct tones in your clips. Is there a piece of clear tape over your white balance sensor?
Try white balancing on different coloured walls near your scene and try shooting several takes with the different white balances.
When you use the 5.6k preset are your clips fairly accurate?
Maybe your white balance sensor is not pointing "straight out".
(I don't have one of these cameras, so I am not sure where the white balance sensor is located)

This camera should have 2 WB sensors: one is the chip itself and the other should be an external sensor. It is hard to understand from the user manual the exact location of the external sensor, but it should be on the front (obviously), at the center of the remote sensor. If this is the sensor, it is completely free from any obstacle, solid or trasparent. I don't know if the sensor points straight out or not, I have no way to test for this. I repeat once again: I'm not completely sure (because I've formatted the first card), but it seems to me that the yellow casting was not present in the previous days and I've white balanced other times. If I'm right, sometimes has happened in the meanwhile to the software or to the sensor. I'll post another test with stupid clips showing definitively that this copy of the the camera has no casting using the daylight preset, but it turns yellow-greenish if you white balance. If you use a gray card there's only a little amount of yellow-green, but it is still there. Yes, perhaps there could be a coloured card that allows me to balance correctly, but I prefer to have a camera that perform a normal white balance, expecially if when I have noticed the problems the camera operation counter was at 1 hour.

Gary, I've not read this entire thread, so please forgive me if this has already been stated, but do you have the ATW switched off in the menu? Also, have you checked to make sure the source illuminating your balance cards is pure and not contaminated by another light source of different temperature?

Have you recorded and played back footage with the presets under carefully controlled light sources? What is the result?

There's always the very unpleasant chance that your camera is simply broken.

Best regards,

Leo

I have performed a quick dirty test outdoor today. Now I have more data and I can conclude that it is a color balance issue. It is clearly visible and it is increased by the monitor green casting, but it is also in footage. Here is the dirty test

http://vimeo.com/18463467 (pwd dvxuser)

It does not seem a sensor issue and ATW has no casting. In daylight only custom WB is affected.

I think to stop to perform tests now, I don't want the counter go on: it was 1 hour when I noticed the issue and now it is 4 hours (!)

the only solution i can see is that there is either something going on with your white balance sensor, but if that were the case your AWB wouldn't look right under daylight. but your custom white balance is off, which can only mean that whatever you are using to white balance is buggy.

I just don't get how the AWB can work well and not the custom white balance, they are using the same thing, except custom saves the seting that the sensor gets by doing a AWB.

We just got one of our cameras and noticed the yellow banding, but its different under different lighting conditions, mostly on flourescents. Which can be adjusted out with the shutter as
diff. flos run on different frequencies. It is similiar to what happens on DSLRs
