My A1 is sooo squirrely

Is it just me or is this camera ultra squirrely? I even have it on a DV rig with the stabilizer and everything attached and the internal stabilization on or off. I have had palmcorders shoot better in that regard. Any help or suggestions?? Here is a link of a swimwear shoot I did in FL last month http://infusionfoto.com/jessicavid.html

Sorry I have no idea what youre talking about as its very hard to concentrate when watching that clip.

heysimon:

I assume that "squirrely" means it shakes or moves. Judging from the clip I suspect that you were not concentrating on holding it steady!

That said, any camera will show increasing movement the farther it's zoomed in. Even with the best OIS system. The camera is slightly nose heavy so practice with it to get comfortable. Other than that I don't find it much different from many other cams of this type. The HVX is heavy overall and you get tired after a long handheld shoot unless you are in the gym evry other day. The DVX is well balanced but wiil aslo squirrel if your not careful. I am sure it doesn't squirrel on a tripod so maybe it's you that moves.:2vrolijk_08:

You mean squirrely like this? :cheesy:

But more serious though, I don't what you mean by squirrely. Do you mean that your pans and tilts are a teensy bit jerky? Have you tried the same movements with a tripod?

Also, could it be that your subjects aren't always in focus? I seem to have noticed that your girls were sometimes just under sharp.

Finally, I had real trouble with opening the embedded video in Firefox, could only open it with safari but with a bypass.

Geez, get a monopod people... its the greatest invention ever for heavy rigs! No weight on your arms or shoulders and you still have that "handheld" look.

I think a monopod is going to be the way to go with what I am working on.... I also think the DVrig is pretty good when you are walking with it, but for the little stuff it is more hinderence than help. Alot of the footage was soft due to back focusing. Thanks everyone for the feedback I really appreciate it!!!!

Is there a reason a tripod wouldnt have worked for these shots? Were you using the LCD, viewfinder, monitor?

I wanted to keep the footage a lil more fluid , but obviously if the footage isn't usable it doesn't matter if it is fluid or not..... I was using the lcd on the camera, which leads to another question, is it better to use the eyepiece for stability?

It could be yeah cus its resting against your head aswell but tbh If I was filmin that kinda material I'd be shakin more than that.....

look Simon, that was pretty pathetic... sorry...

I strongly recommended you grab a couple of bottles of wine, invite those girls over to your place, and get us another hour or two of content to review.

maybe then we can determine what is wrong with the camera...

Hahahaha. I wholeheartedly concur.

After watching your video I think I have a couple of ideas why it was so "shaky" :D You're going to need a whole lot of support to shoot stuff like that. BTW, if you need a makeup guys to rub some oil on those models I'll catch the next flight from Barcelona.

Im seriously starting to think it may just be an over excited camera op...... he was wearing a DVrig pro tho...... you should see the stuff that hit the cutting room floor : ( hmmm I am gonna edit part 2 tonight, is it ok to post thong footage on here??
