When I press record on my 7D, if often shuts off spontaneously after about 30-60 seconds. What could possibly explain this, full record cards, time settings in the camera menu? Thanks in advance

Starcentral, Thanks for your quick reply. Not sure what you mean by activations but I bought it in dec 2009 or 3 years ago brand new.

I just searched my camera and online for how to find out number of shutter actuations but can't find it. Not that many I am guessing, perhaps 10,000

10,000 isn't bad, I have around 10,000 as well.

Try turning it on without any memory card and see what happens, or if there are any messages.

Lastly it could just be your battery? What do your batt. levels indicate?

What brand/speed is your CF card though?

7D's have a known issue where they overheat when recording video. Usually this happens after prolonged time, but if the memory card doesn't have the write speed for the film rate you're filming at or does not perform well under high heat situations then that could be a cause as to the stoppage in recording.

can you explain " shuts off " do you mean the camera itself turns all the way off or does it stop recording. It sounds like you have a slow card or a full card or heat. I know all will stop the camera from recording. I don't know anything short of the battery draining that would cause the camera to shut off. You may try getting everything off of the card you want, then formatting it with the camera to set the file system then try recording again.
