Hey All,

Just got my 7D and its awesome. However, i feel like an idiot asking this question, but never using SLR's im very new to it.

Been using my Brevis so i've always been used to setting aperture on the lens.

For my 7D i'm using three lenses. I have a Carl Zeiss 50mm 1.4, which is fine coz i set the aperture on the ring for that.

The other 2 lenses are a canon 70-200mm 2.8 and a canon 16-35 2.8

I've worked out ISO and shutter speed, but I cannot for the life of me find aperture setting on the camera!

I look at the manual, and I flicked what I thought looked like the diagram but, nothing.

Please help me and excuse the ignorance.

Thanks in advance,

Sean.

:) thanks, guess having the combination of trying it with a prime lens on, and having the clip under the dial set to lock didn't help.

Cheers for that.

Just keep playing around with it. Read the manual a few times. If you haven't used a DSLR before you have a lot to learn. Get the basic stuff down and work from there. Have fun with it.

search through these threads and read the book that came with the camera. Oh, yeah, take a lot of pictures and video and make yourself familiar with the post-production/editing process.

Thanks to the guys who offered some advice on how to get to know the camera better. I didn't know Philip Bloom had a training video out, i'll be sure to go that route.

Just to clarify, I did search google and read the manual and was sure that the dial how to adjust aperture.

As I did mention I've never used SLR's before, so naturally I'm an amateur. My problem was I was trying to set the aperture with the dial whilst my prime lens was on the camera. I did not know that you could not adjust aperture whilst a prime lens was on. When I did put my Canon lens on the lock switch was set on so the aperture wasn't changing.

Again thanks to those of you who offered some advice from your experience.

Cheers,

Sean.
