My 1st Wedding Trailer

I said I'd never shoot a wedding.

Never say never... I just shot one for a friend.
Just finished a 2 min trailer of the ceremony, working on a 3 min reception highlights now.

It was a 1 camera shoot (the other camera in some shots was not with me).

The bride had the lights dimmed 70% right before she came down the aisle, I scrambled to go to 3db gain and 1/24 shutter.
Was on manual zoom for quick focus, didn't intend to use zooms, then did.
Used my slider some, graded in Magic Bullet.

I said I'd never shoot a wedding, now I'm shooting my niece's wedding in a week... (isn't there supposed to be money in doing these?) ... sigh...

Thoughts, comments welcome.

Def liked the slider shots. worked well with this..and some of the abgles like the low angle of the dress. very nice. some shots i didnt like the vignette. and that gain really bit u in the rear there. Why'd they have 2 shooters though....i mean 2 that werent shooting for the same goal.

Hey Darren-
Yeah, I think the vignette's probably a little heavy on some shots, I may go back and regrade when I can.
Do you have any specific shots that bug you? Is it too much vignette, or that there shouldn't be any?

It is a bit of a challenge shooting with the slider, especially on a make or break shot like the bride walking down the aisle, but the results are worth it.

The bride's room at the venue was the darkest, dreariest, brown and beige I've ever seen... I was like "Where's the sun-drenched room I see in all the videos???" LOL!

The other shooter (semi-pro) was requested by family, so I had to work around him, but it was no big deal.
I could have used his video, but :
1) I wanted to use only my video for a demo (just in case I go crazy and do more in the future), and
2) Turns out he shot at 18db gain, and his stuff looks horrible.

The still shooter was very cool, no problems there, other than the red autofocus from his camera dancing on the groom's face during the vows (and of course the DVX doesn't like red light, even small amounts). I brought up the brightness on the groom's face, and the red light didn't help.

Funny thing is I found Ryan Brown's guide to shooting weddings after shooting this one.

But thanks for watching man! And for leaving the 7D forum and swinging by your old stomping grounds! I hope to have a 7d soon myself... I may pick your brain on that... :D

hey man I'll be round then parts for a while longer. I have a short film editing that i shot on the dvx. i started and its been sitting there for a while now...so i need to get on it.

I'll look through again to see which shots i didnt feel the vignette in.

Why the 7d? and not the t2i? Or the 60d that has just been announced. Nothings wring with the 7d clearly :) but just wanted to know why you're choosing it.

Started with 5D vs 7D. I guess 7D for 60p, tougher body, more ISOs and monitor out while recording.
Still doing my homework, haven't looked at the 60 yet, but thanks.

A little help please

A little help please

I'm new to the forum. This looks great to me. I notice you have got strong areas of light where you have the ceiling lights creating pools of bright light in part of the trailer. I've been experiencing insurmountable banding with much less dramatic light contrasts such as are likely to occur with most indoor scenes, did you ever notice anything like this in the camera? By banding I mean where the image looks like a very low rez gif image with horrible streaks and circles everywhere. I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion I should get rid of my DVX ASAP. Bought it on ebay and think I've been done.

artist- thanks. I haven't gotten banding like you describe. Never anything more than blown out bright spots.
Sounds like there's a problem with your camera, the sensor or something?
Good luck, maybe Barry could answer your question.

Liked the vid. Your slider shots were super smooth. Can you give me some details on what you used? Gracias

Cheers
