Hey HVX experts,
Hope everyone is enjoying their new holiday toys -
I just got my HVX over the holidays ... I also have a DVX, I just wanted to take advantage of the end-of-year financing/tax write-off and bundling deals and also needed to add a 2nd camera package to my production company.
I currently edit/produce a weekly SD show that's broadcast on our local PBS affiliate. I've been editing using an old version of AVID DV (3.5) on an Athlon-based PC. It's been great and rock solid for the past 5 years. My plan is to continue shooting and producing in SD but in widescreen, squeeze mode so the station can up-convert and insert into their HD broadcast stream.
I would like to stay with AVID (been a user for more than 10 years) and am trying to avoid upgrading for now until I start producing/shooting in HD. I am very comfortable with the AVID interface. I know I would need to upgrade my computer as well as my AVID in the future if I want to start producing/shooting in HD to allow for direct MXF import into AVID.
To tide me over ... Is there a utility to convert the P2 MXFs to OMFs to allow import into AVID?
I thought by purchasing the HVX and recording ontu P2 I would save on my monthly tape stock costs. But, I can't import the P2 MXF's into my old AVID, so I'm still stuck shooting SD ontu tape ... any solutions ?
I have the CS3 Production Bundle (I use AE and PS) but, as I said above, I would like to stick with AVID for editing.
Could I use Premiere as the conversion utility (MXF to Quicktime) to allow import into AVID? I realize that AVID would then have to turn the QT files into OMFs.
Thanks,
Jay
