MXF in After Effects

I'm shooting 1080p footage and editing on Edius.

The question is; what is the best way of getting the edited footage from Edius to After Effects. I reality I would obviously like to bring the actual mxf files in, without exporting or recompressing or anything. Is there a way to do this? How do other people get around it?

Can Edius export an AAF file? That would probably be the quickest way and wouldn't require recompressing.

You can also use the Canopus HQ or Lossless codecs if you are running After Effects on the same machine as Edius. That would save you a great deal of disk space.

The full Canopus codec needs a Canopus editing board or the Edius software dongle, but you can download a decode-only version of the codec if you are running After Effects on a different system or need a post house to be able to work with material using the Canopus HQ/Lossless codec.

Well, as we are talking about quite a lot of shots I would prefer not to be exporting uncompressed stuff. As I see it the ideal way would be to import the actual source files, but I guess theres no easy way of doing that. How about that AAF stuff? How exactly does that work?

I would second the comment of THoff,

thats actually my workflow for footage that has to go through AE: import MXF to EDIUS, edit, and export via Canopus HQ(highest quality, i dont use losless right now)..then work in AE.

You even can send it back as Canopus HQ from AE if you run both programms on the same machine....!
