MXF Files?

Hey, I'm just starting to use my HPX170 now and when I transfer the files to my computer (using Adobe Premiere), the video and audio files are seperated.

I was wondering if this is standard and if there is an easy way to combine all the files together.

Thanks.

Is there an easy way of combining the video files with the sound files. Example: File # 3807w01 (video) with File #3807L01(sound)?

Premiere CS3 or later automatically does that. It can't get any easier. Go to the media browser and import the file...

I'm using Premiere Pro CS4 on Windows XP Professional.

I used the media browser and it loaded the files to the program, but the video and audio files are seperate and scattered (the audio files are often two files for left and right channels). I have to go through the list and find all the files to try to put them together.

It looks like this:

It would be much easier if the file was just one with all the video and audio files already put together, like when I used to capture DV footage.

That is totally not what it does on mine. On mine, you use the media browser to browse to the top-level directory (the "CONTENTS" directory). It then brings up a list of the clips in that directory, and also shows the icon. You drag the icon into the bin. There's one clip there. You drag it to the timeline, and it automatically drags the audio and everything and it's all treated as one clip.

Trust me, it will work the way you want. I don't know what you're doing that's different -- are you going all the way into the CONTENTS/VIDEO folder or something?

Or did you not copy the complete CONTENTS folder structure?

mine did that aswell when i imported into my computer off the fs100, i just imported all the files into premier and when you in and out what you want into ur time line it automatically imports the audio

Are you using the Media Browser in Premiere? This looks like Windows Explorer.

Go to the workflow white paper here:

ftp://ftp.panasonic.com/pub/Panasonic/business/provideo/whitepapers/WP_Using_P2HD_with_Adobe_CS4.pdf

Check out importing footage, starting on page 11. The Media Browser is a tool inside Premiere itself.

You do not want the Video and Audio files in the same folder, or Premiere will not import properly. You need to keep the file structure exactly as it is on the P2 card.

Thanks for all the help everyone! I finally got it to work properly...there was a setting in the external hard drive I had to change.

Hellow everybody. I'm new on this forum. I just bought two HPX-171 and I have some problems with mxf files made by de camera. I copy de contents folder from de p2 card for example on my hdd. The when I import the files in premiere CS5 the files don't apear in the order i shot them. I tried to sort the files using "Video In Point" in CS5 but is not very efective. Is there a way for the camera to record the files on P2 card in the order i shoot them? Please help me. Thank you

The camera does record the clips in the order you shot them. If they're out of order, it's because of how they're sorted in Premiere.

The best thing to do is use the meta data to name your files and sort on the User Clip Name.

However, with the footage you already have, you should be able to sort on Date Created.

Import through the Media Browser. It makes this easy.

an easier method would be to just sort your files by timecode in premiere... fcp can do that. dont know why premiere wouldnt have that option?

Premiere does have that option, but sorting by creation (which includes date and time) will ensure it's in creation order even if timecode is reset.
