MWB color temperature?

When one does a manual white balance is there a way to know how many degrees K you have just balanced for?

I ask because it would be nice to do a manual white balance and then if one wanted a warmer/cooler picture one could then knowing what the actual degrees Kelvin is proceed to manually dial in in VAR mode and know where they are.

Thus far I have done this by eye which is okay with a great monitor but not so good in the field.

When you dial in VWB... isnt it telling you what the degrees K is? eg. 3300, 5900...

We did a test to compare AF102 reading against a Color Temp meter. Actually Chris did the test and I did not take too much notice but...

I thought that he Manual WB'd the camera to the light source of a white card.
He took a Color temp reading with the meter.
Then he added 100 degrees kelvin thru variable function to match the meter reading.

He stated that the difference between the Camera WB and the color tem were only at variance by approx 50 degrees K.

Sorry I did not take on board his full methodology but assumed he must have known the camera K reading.

Where? I don't know. Maybe I'm missing this.

Very good to know. Thanks.

I think what you are after is "push wb button three times then use function joystick located under near lower center of cam" I think it also needs to be in preset mode as well.

Just fumbled thru it yesterday.

LCD will display temp.

Steve,
As far as I can tell when doing a white balance off a card (using A or B) it does NOT show you the K temp. So no, you can't just take that reading, switch to VAR and dial that number in + or -. It'd be nice if it did.

I think he's saying if you did a manual white balance by pushing the button to balance to a card, is there a way to know what temperature it would be. If I understand you correctly, I think the answer no. But if there is, it would be great to know.

Which is what I also stated.

I will check this out for you when I hit the studio this morning...but as I recall...when we did the test...we were getting a readout in the preset that identified the degrees K.

I also recall switching between them to observe the values difference.
