Hi guys,
which is your must have software set for video editing?
(editing tools, effects, PLUG IN, etc.)

Thanks

DVrack
Premiere Pro
Color finesse
Magic Bullet
After Effects
Ultimatte
Photo Shop
Audition
Sound Forge
Encore DVD
Etc.

Which platform?

For me, regardless of platform, it would be:

AE
PS
DVD Authoring - Encore or DVD SP
NLE - Final Cut Pro or Edius Broadcast
Sound - Soundtrack Pro or Sound Forge
MPEG2 encoder - Compressor or BitVice for Mac and CinemaCraft or ProCoder for the PC.

And then a good effects or content creator like Motion and/or LiveType of the Mac.

I also like p2 Log and Raylight for the Mac.

these are all great choices! but it depends on who you want to be? if you want to go heavier on motion graphics, adobe illustrator and some form of 3D application are absolutely CRUCIAL!

if you want to get really picky about sound, i say go with bias peak or protools.

if you wanna get all "plug-in nutty" you cant beat the genarts saphire suite! at $1600 its pretty spendy but there is a TON of stuff there and as many gems as filler!

again, if you wanna go heavy into plug in stuff, there is a bit more interesting stuff (as opposed to hacky hobbiest junk) for after effects than for editing packages like avid, FCP or premiere.

i have found particle illusion very interesting as it works as both standalone app AND plugin for various editing packages.

if youre on a mac and use FCP id HIGHLY suggest teh nattress film tools.

ok, i'll shut up now.

A must have for me is Adobe's Production Suite.

It is complete and can be used for editing
sound (Audition),
video (Premiere Pro),
and motion graphics and compositing (AfterEffects).
Vector Drawings (Illustrator),
Photo manipulations (Photoshop),
Flash animations and content creation (Flash).
DVD creation is also integrated into the system also.

All the above and much more for CS3 for about $1699.00.
I got the CS2 and about to get the upgrade to CS3.
The integration and linking between the Adobe applications make this so easy.
Try it if you do everything by yourself. But if you work in a production team, perhaps just invest in a specific progam and forget about Adobe's workflow efficiency.

More must have software.
3dsMax for compositing 3d stuff and realistic particles and explosions.
CrazyTalk (Facial lypsyncing).
Microsoft Media Encoder (Compression and Media File for Web conversion).

There alot of must have software for me , but my question is Must have for just video editing or also content creation also.

Video editing can be a broad field. With specific tasks involved. Color correction, sequencing, titling, compositing, sound engineering , and so on .

I must admit that some of my work needs a little refining at times and I have not found a single application that can resolve all situations in by itself. Well not in Adobe Premiere.

Maybe Adobe will buy out Autodesk and integrate their 3d packages ( Maya and/or 3dsMax).

I'm following this thread with interest because my October DV Magazine feature will be on various plug-ins, add-ons and utilities for editors attempting to span both PC and Mac platforms. Really interested in what many of our experienced users here recommend.

And yes, as has been said, the first question is "what do I want to do.?" There is no sense in recommending audio plug-ins when your primary interest might be VFX.
