Must-Have DVX accessories?

Don't just say "a good Mic", but get into specifics, equipment you'd recommend (or even own currently) when under a strict budget (under $1k).

Thanks

A good mic.

Really, im rocking the sennheiser k6 me66/me67 combo. I got a good deal on ebay, however brand new your looking at close to a grand for the 2 mics and power module, then your going to need some windscreens. So your looking at about a grand.

Your question is way too broad. "must have accessories?"

That depends: what do you shoot?

Obviously if you're shooting music vids, you don't need a mic, but a jib or dolly would be more helpful. If you're shooting events, a wireless lav would probably be your best bet. If your shooting blah, then blah blah would help more. ETC, etc, etc, etc...

A good tripod is the only "must have" I can think of for every type of shooter.

I plan on shooting some short films, possibly make some $$ shooting some weddings.

Should have included that in the first post.

a good case or bag I think falls under the essentials for all shooters as well, but what kind of course depends on what you do. I agree on the tripod.

1: A Clear (AKA UV) filter for your lens - it'll protect that precious glass from any accidents

2: A solid performing mic and shockmount for either boom or on camera use - check the stickies in the audio thread for models - on-cam isn't great, but sometimes you need to - a shorter shotgun will give you more flexability.

3. A GOOD tripod and head - Take it from someone who's been there: don't buy junk.
I have just moved from a rubbish setup to an intermediate Miller system and can honestly say that all of my footage beforehand was pure crap (in terms of shakes, wobble and non smooth movement).
If you are doing short films, I'd recommend at least the Libec LS-38 as many people have demonstrated it to be rock solid and can handle most camera moves like a more expensive system. Plus you'll look the part at any wedding :)

3. Lighting kit - just get something basic, hiring is good for lighting and grip gear. If you plan on shooting weddings, look into a camera mounted light though

4. A bag or hard case - you've gotta carry your camera in something!

For most of the other stuff (extra lights, microphones etc) just hire'em

Good points guys - but don't forget the basics - buy the batteries sold here - 5600ma. i have - last a long time - excellent to use. I agree with the filter comment - buy a b+w filter -don't go cheap there.

Based upon my own experience, I strongly recommend the Audio Forum for audio info, the Hardware Forum for hardware info and the Lighting Forum for lighting info.
Use the SEARCH function FIRST as there is a wealth of info to be found within these and other forums. Broad questions like this are not new.
Do some digging--you will find much.
Oh, and the Technical Forum is good for technical info on the DVX.

As mentioned earlier "must haves" are different for different situations. The only thing I'd suggest for all shooters is a comfortable professional bag (you want to protect your investment properly), additional batteries, UV filter and LCD hoodman. Everything else depends on the type of shooting you end up doing. You should research the individual items specifically - such as the type of mic, tripod, lighting and other toys. Don't be afraid to rent some of the bigger priced items. No need to buy an expensive light kit because you want to shoot 1 short film.
