Music Video with naked chicks!!

Ok, not really naked chicks but there are so many "music video" threads, i had to get your attention somehow.

My first crack at a music video. Have yet to shoot the storyline part. Still consulting with the band to figure out the plot. So in the meantime, here's an all performance cut. Shot with dvx100a. no 35 adaptor. edited in FCP.

The band is called "Uncrowned". The song is "Believe in Goodbye"

neat set. nice production design, with the dark colors in there. anyway, I'm not very fond of this kind of music (or really any rock bands past the mid 90's) I'm an oldies type. But, back to the video, not the band. hmm...not really much more to say, since it's a performance only cut. Editing was nice and tight too. The mirror images seemed right also. good job.

Great images great signal break FX and great quake effects.

Music not foe me but very Pro looking video.

I've been impressed with your image quality dude. Keep up the good work.

Heck, with camerawork and editing this good, why would you need "naked girls" in your thread title. (Although having naked girls in your video itself wouldn't necessarily be a bad idea ... but that's discussion for a whole new thread).

Very nice job. High energy music and band performance matched perfectly with your style of shooting and editing. The background flashing lights plus the floating bulbs added good depth to the video.

Great exposure for faces and band equipment. Did you experience any challenges in shooting this piece -- given it was your first (and impressive) crack?

Also, could you talk more about your lighting setup, camera settings and fcp (cc and effects) ingredients?

Looking forward to the finished cut.

Okay first of all you did a great job! Nice work. This is the kind of stuff that production companies are looking for. I'd love to see you fire on a 35mm adapter in the future and see how much more that shows off your talents.

Now let's talk about the naked girl comment. No matter how good the shooting, lighting and editing is, there is ALWAYS a reason to have naked women in your video.

Good job.:) Email me if you want some info on repersentation in Toronto.

Looks good, nicely edited. I'm not a big fan of performance videos, but for what it is, it's sharp. I might suggest that you get a true lens blur plugin and use that instead of the gaussian.

this was shot in a band rehearsal room. it's an hourly rental with p.a. and lights included. out of all the built in lights at the facility, i ended up only using the back lights. i think it was around 10 par cans at the back of the stage and about 20 feet up. no gels. just hard light. the front stage lights lit up the black backdrop too much for me. for the front, i used a 300w work light diffused with fiberglass cloth for the key and took another 300w work light and bounced it off the wall for a fill. the swinging lights and the standing bulbs in the back are normal 60w soft whites on a dimmer. the blow-out lights in the back were 60w floods.

cam settings were factory. i shot mostly at 24pa and some 30p and slowed to 80%. 1/120 shutter for most of it and 1/500 for some of the drummer shots.

cc was pretty basic. leaned the mids to cyan. crushed the blacks. pumped the highlights. went as far as i could while staying within broadcast safe boundries.

effects were standard FCP stuff. i don't have any plugins. for the earthquake effect, i used keyframing in the motion tab. for the static, i used the "wave" filter. the beginning/end was gaussian blur and mirror. that's about it.

did you dp this cheez?

yeah, this was a one man show. i had a friend of mine and his girlfriend helping me with building the set, etc. he built the blow-out lights in the back that morning. next time i will get more people involved in the production. too much work for one guy. the thing that saved my butt was that i rented a jib and had that on a dolly moving toward and away from the stage. so basically i could move the camera wherever i wanted very quickly and easily. i didn't use my tripod once. in fact, the only time the cam left the jib was for the steadicam shots around the drummer.

i think you just gave me my storyline......

Hmm, I don't know many plugins for FCP. The tool I use for this sort of work is usually Tinderbox's Lens Blur for AE, and I don't think they have a version for FCP. Somebody must make something similar, though... sorry I can't be more help.

The bassist didn't seem really into at times, but overall I enjoyed this video.

yeah, i agree with you. it wouldn't be so obvious if the singer wasn't going ****ing berzerk. kind of overshadowed the bass player.... these guys are from atlanta and play in new orleans sometimes. your neck of the woods....

I don't know what to say... needs more naked women?

I've got nothing.

Slick video though.
