C100: Music Video - Slice of @ss (NSFW)

At the risk of extreme humiliation I am reposting this in the camera section.

A little background here. . .

I am in a (currently two-piece--the other guys in the video are for aesthetics, like what The Outfield did in the "Your Love" video) comedy-rock band. This is our second music video. Our vocalist wrote the song and directed/came up with the concept of the video, I DP'd. I am the guitarist/dancer.

Some BTS info: Shot on C100 Mk1 on Wide DR mode (light grade by me in FCP7). We set up in a room of his parents' house. The white background is actually an old projection screen (like for big corporate live shows/events) that was given to him when his company was ready to throw it out. I was able to borrow some Kino 4-banks and Divas from a colleague/friend, which did all the lighting. The 4 banks are lighting the background, the Divas are our edge lights. The outdoor stuff was just at a local park adjacent to a bayou. Nothing special. . .us, tripod, daylight WB.

Regrets: He did want more contrast on set for the shadowy parts of our faces/bodies, but I didn't think to bring huge pieces of duve or dark sound blankets, and the walls in that room were a fairly light pink it was what it was. I wanted to do more to blow out the white (especially the floor), as you can see the lines in the screen (maybe I should've pushed him to spend $50 on a white paper backdrop) but was told to let it go in the interest of time. So again, it is what it is. I think it came out pretty well, but would try to do those things differently if I had it to do over again.

We didn't take any real BTS photos but here's a straight from cam shot that shows the entire setup:

Josh;
Sometimes I post up stuff (music vids, shorts, etc.) and it gets ripped to shreds and it feels like a kick in the gut. Lots of guys like me (and perhaps yourself) do the best we can with what we got! And to me, frankly, a good effort done from the heart counts as much (if not more) than a slicked out technically perfect production done by a DOP god. I like your video. It's got a "style" that hangs through it. It works with the song. Damn good effort! :beer: Keep it up and don't get discouraged if you get some "negative" feedback. Take it with a grain of salt, live and learn. But at the end of the day you put images to music in your own way and no matter what anyone tells you, that takes some courage, especially when done from the heart! Well done! Keep it up. Get a Vimeo channel and do more!

Ha. Thanks. I meant more that no one remarked on it when it was in User films and there's no way to know if that was 'cause that's what it "deserved" or if it's cause that section is dead/ignored for whatever reason. Thanks though.

Haha, actually liked that track!! pretty funny - yeah shame you didn't spring for the pure white backdrop, woulda pushed up production a lot. Personally I didn't like the lycra dancing character, disturbing and annoying! I think it works better with the deadpan/faux sincere delivery of the other clips in tandem with the ridiculous/funny lyrics, woulda pushed that a bit more. Liked the eagle/flag "Murica f**k yeah" patriotic section.
