Hey guys/gals

I directed and shot this video last August. The artist is very new to the scene.

I went a different direction with the video introducing a new style of storytelling. I'ts a cool mix of 24P on the DVX with flashbacks shot on Super 8 film along the waterfront in Toronto.

I was going for somewhat of a 90's style Hip-Hop/R & B theme for the video.

Please I appreciate all feedback.
thanks guys.

So is it a serious theme or a comedic approach?

haha, that's what I was thinking as well!

It didn't look that good actually.. Have to say..

The storyline didn't really give me anything.
The images looked shabby and unprocessed.
And the editing was just all over the place and didn't actually help the story along.

So, yeah..
I'm sorry to be so harsh, but that's how it is sometimes.
One will never learn unless one hears the truth.

But it's good that you're out there actually making stuff. It's the only way to learn. So yeah, keep doing it, and listen to peoples advice.

Yeah, I gotta agree with tommetass. This video doesn't look very good at all. Not to mention that the song is not the best to begin with. (I don't even like Hip-Hop, but this one is just cheesy.)

The shots all suffer from bad/non-existent lighting, such as shots outside during the day that expose for shadows and leave the sunny background blown out. And it is very flat... no in-camera settings or post-production color treatment. It's just dull, and I'll agree that the editing is all over the place with no usable storyline.

I also don't think there's anything "new" in mixing the DVX footage with Super 8 film. I've seen Super 8 footage interwoven many times to invoke a sense of nostalgia, and not just with DVX footage.

I agree with what's been said.

To be honest it's always hard to make a music video to a crappy song, which unfortunately you have to learn to deal with since clients aren't always the best artists. It sure could've used some color correction, etc.

But do keep at it!

But...
If you're good.. you can be picky in your choice of customers..

Yeah definately could have used 35mm adapters to bring the image up. The editing is mainly beat orientated. It took me a while to get the edit where it is in terms of the cutting.

But most people don't realize I actually helped with the beat of the song. You should heard some of the 1st drafts of the song. So Out of respect for the people who worked on the video project, I tryed none the less.
