GH3 Music Video Shot on GH3 and GH2, for Biffy Clyro Competition.

After shooting a few music videos using a GH2, I recently aquired a GH3 as a second cam.

My first real chance to get this combo out in the field came with the opportunity to film a performance video for band Ball of Mayhem, for their entry into Biffy Clyro's cover song competition.

We had precious little time to attempt a larger production, as the deadline was looming just as the band found out about the competitions existence. So, the band arranged the use of a performance space in a local club, complete with a small lighting rig, and a PA system.

I decided to shoot with a 2.35:1 ratio, which I had never attempted before. I simply marked off the matte lines on a screen protector with a pen.

The lenses I used were an ebay bought Canon FD 50mm 1.8 on the GH2 and the Panasonic 20mm 1.7 on the GH3.

Ball of Mayhem recorded the song the day before we shot, then i edited the video around work, over two days. I used FCP7 to edit, and the video is ungraded.

GH2 uses the CBrandin 44/66 hack which is very old now, and i used AVCHD setting on the GH3, both at 24p.

Personally, I prefer this version to the original!

Good video, it looked really clean and the edit in particular was really good, it really made use of the one location to the fullest. I like the shots with the mics in the foreground, they really lend depth.

I would have loved to see some more extreme close ups of the picking in the solo at 2:33, with some longer shots there as well to show of the precision. Good stuff though!
