Update: A few clips on Vimeo.

Just finished a music video shoot with the RED as "A" camera and the HPX as a "B" camera primarily intended for inserts and closeups. The more I use this camera the more I really like it.

Here is one raw shot:

Had some fun turning up the coring and really putting the master pedistal down to like -20. The fact is for these jazz club scenes (shot at Portland's Jimmy Mak's Jazz Club) with my personal tweaks to all the settings, the shots looked really sweet. Absolutely no noise in the blacks (likely all due to my tweaks). Really nice stuff and should cut together with the RED just fine, especially once down rezed.

I shot AVC-Intra 100 at 1080 24PN and I have the firmware update installed.

This is not intended to be a scientific revue of the images. This is a larger Mac "Preview" selection grab from Quicktime player LOL. This will annoy some of you, but trust me the images look very nice RAW.

Looks killer, Devon. Hopefully you'll link us to the finished product - intercut with the RED - when it's finished? :)

We are not editing the video. I just directed and ran B-camera (the HPX). When it is edited I will direct you to the video :)

I just realized that I was one version of firmware back when that was shot last week. I had updated once, not sure of that version number, and then reading this thread realized that another update was available on August 5th. So, I updated yesterday to that version 9.30? What is the difference between the first firmware update and this more recent version?

I am going to try and cut together like 45 seconds for Vimeo of some of the jazz club HPX shots...

Here is the VIMEO link. UPDATE: Okay. The watermarked version is up.

As I said on Vimeo:

1. Turn scaling "off" if you go full screen.
2. Let the video load the entire way before trying to play back.

These are a few random clips from the HPX 300. This is NOT an edit, I just put a few clips back-to-back that a few people on DVX User asked to see.

Originally shot in AVC-Intra 100 at 1080 23.976. This was NOT firmware 9.30, I believe it was one version back, 9.28?

The original footage was transcoded to ProResHQ and then rendered out as a 720p h.264 file for upload to Vimeo.

The "A" camera on this shoot was the RED ONE. The HPX stuff is mainly going to be quick insert shots, etc. We've done this on a few shoots and believe it or not it works out pretty well.

Just curious as I might be shooting a music video myself this Friday. What did you use for audio playback? Did you jam sync your player to the HPX300/RED or sync another way? Thanks.

Normally we would always jam sync but on this shoot due to various constraints, there are just a series of pops in the song being played live as well as slating both cameras in a way that will help match the two. FAR FROM GOOD, but that is all we could do on this shoot.

I hear ya, I have a feeling we won't be able to jam sync either due to budgetary constraints. What did you use to play back - CD? iPod? Any concern with drift from location shooting to post?
