music video (GRITS)

YOu know eppdid.................it. That was a sick ass video, good job with all the camera work, and nice post as well. What tools did you use?

DVX100 is always the camera of choice, I also have a few toys (cobra crane, dolly & tracks, fisheye & wide angle lenses). Arri & Lowell Light kits.
I'm a mac guy also.
Used FCP 5, After Effects, Motion & Photoshop CS in post.

That was a nice ass video; I was really feeling your post work...made it interesting to watch. If only some of our real underground hip hop artist could get this kind of production; maybe it would help promote the serious lyricist. Peace.

Oh yeah, this has always been my favorite vid of yours. lenny and the guys loved it as well, although as soon as the first little light streak comes through frame her went, "Oh cool he uses motion too." LOL But very well executed. Anyone who has not checked out this video.. get with it!

Hey epp,
great vid, with a lot of great shots!
Finally a different approach to this genre!!!
I just watched the "they don´t understand" clip and was curious how you did the b&w in the extreme closeup of the old man at 01:30...?
I´m planning an all b&w project right now and looking for a good way to CC this...
For PS there is a good b&w filter in the Nic Filters package, did you use a filter or CCed from scratch?

well, all I got to say is I hate about 98% of all music videos but I actually enjoyed watching this one. Having fun with 3D stroke aren't we? ;) Not bad at all man! The music helped out as well. Good music, good looking video! Word!

:)

The stark b/w shot was from the Magic Bullet Look Suite. If you have it, you can find it under the Sepia Folder. You can probably pull off a similar look by bringing your saturation all the way down and crushing your blacks.

MB did most of the work for me, I just played around with the preset until I got the look I wanted.
thanks for the great comments!

Well done! bravisimo.
BTW, I watched "time after time" with my fiance and you had her crying like an open faucet. We are both Christian and are sensitive about the image of Christ. Nevertheless, the video and the story were beautifully done.

Loved it. My wife loved it. We're big Grits fans already, but I loved all the effects. Was this 100% chroma key or did you do a lot of location shots. Liked the super-letterboxed, multi frame, bridge section and the nod to "Back to the Future" at the end. Great job.

How did you get the freeze frames where the people were removed from the scene and then reinserted? Is that the 3-D feature someone referred to?

I like it, how is winchester, I am in louisville.
How many people do you know in ky that use dvx?

Eppdidit,

Did you work with the group Grits? I loved the editing ...was that all you? Do you do any freelance editing as well for Documentries? Private Message me when you get a chance.

Sorry I haven't replied in awhile...didn't realize this thread had gained new life! To answer belarussian2001, this video had 100% NO chromakeying. There was actually a big scene that was going to be a chromakey, but ended up getting cut due to time.

RomanJaquez, thanks for taking time to watch the "Time After Time" video. That was a very rewarding project and I appreciate your comments, glad you enjoyed it.

The scene where the guys freeze was pretty basic...just cut the guys out in PS and brought them back into FCP with the transparent bckgrnd, threw in some fancy flashes from Motion and shazam! there ya go. Most people who know me, know that this is a trademark move of mine.

Peace,
epp

I'm a novice...could you explain that process and what you do to get the images out to PS and then back again.
